Two years ago we made the conversion. The car has been a Morgan +8 with Rover 4 speed transmission. During restoration of that car the Danish owner converted it to the Rover 5 speed transmission LT77 and from RHD to LHD. Cause the overhauled LT77 made problems after two years the owner decided to fit that Vitesse conversion, what we have done for him. As Vitesse told us we have been the first ones who made this conversion to a LHD car. The fitment was no problem, the rear transmission mount didn`t need any welding, it has been a `clamp on type´ on our conversion. Cause we already had the transmission cover of a LT77 Morgan, we didn`t have to modify that one. The gear lever was in the same position as on the LT77. The problems we had, have been to a too long propshaft, but Vitesse did change that to a correct one. The central clutch release bearing made problems, cause we had wrong connections for it in the kit.
Luckily we did check that before and we didn`t have to take off engine again because of a leakage. Main problem has been the handbrake. It was originally mounted left side of transmission, this wasn`t possible with the Mazda transmission. So we had to move handbrake from lh to rh side of the transmission. All the problems did cause that we did need a lot more time for fitment as awaited and calculated, what didn`t make the customer happy that time.
Now the customer is very very lucky with this conversion. The car is driveable very good. I think there won`t be any issues with the transmission with serial torque of the engines. Can`t state what would happen with a tuned and more powerful engine. We made some pics of the conversion, but I`m not able to put them in over here. If someone wants the pics let me know (frank.schauer@morganpark.de)
