In the private sector at a meeting you would be lucky to get free coffee. Things are obviously different in the Civil service.

I worked for them for my last 12 years prior to early retirement and they don't hold back John, the surplus was always passed directly onto the general office staff.. Decca Navigator and Racal were always good but not quite at CS level

JohnV6 ... you may have worked for the wrong bits of the Private Sector ..... my Sister's boss hired a jet and flew the entire staff away for a weekend jolly one time!! 🙂

K Yep, the financial services sector in the 1980s and 90s was pretty lax. At one time I was providing desktop support for senior managers who were just getting their first personal computers. I was seconded down to Moorfields in the City occasionally, and the directors would often be too pissed after lunch to remember that their PCs had to be switched on to work. My contract of employment specified that one of the reasons I could be dismissed was 'persistent drunkeness'. Occasional Friday lunchtimes in Balls Brothers then rocking back to the office to snooze for a couple of hours before taking the train home? No problem. Very different in the electricity industry though. Mandatory random drug and alcohol testing for everyone, and quite right too of course.
