I am looking to trade up to a newer Plus 4, probably 2017 to 2020 vintage, and I am somewhat confused with what the actual body width is at it's widest point (probably across the rear wheel arches?).

I have seen a couple of cars which are advertised as 'special order wide bodied'. I thought all later Morgans were wide body? Data I can find online, and a friends Morgan handbook, state the width as approximately 1720mm, and yet two friends who have measured their cars (2016 & 2017) tell me theirs are about 1620mm.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

Someone who really knows will be along in a minute, however IIRC, there were 3 wheel width options on cars of that vintage. They ranged from alloys to wires the same dimensions as the Roadsters of the same period. This will cause a variation in width.

Assuming that a garage constraint or similar is the issue, you will need to measure the car you have in mind.

My +4 2014 is 155 cm at the front an 166 cm at the back.

I know it's a lot wider than my 4/4.
Notice that especially when we go out together, my wife and I seated shoulder to shoulder in 4/4.

Across the rear wings, but the spinners may protrude further. My second garage is critical on width, which is why I went for a narrow Plus 4. (4/4 body & wheels with Plus 4 running gear).

As said above, some Plus 4's came with optional alloys so the width will be different than with wires.

Some Plus 4's were specced with Roadster wheels and wings, which to my mind adds too much weight for the 2.0L engine. Again, optional alloys or wires will have two different widths.

As far as I know, the later cars all shared the same body TUB width, I suspect from soon after the long door upgrade, but I would have to look that up.

Paul - I'm awaiting the dealer to come back to me with the measurement.

Thanks to all of you for your info - really helpful.

Just measured my 4/4 outside of front wings and it’s 1,400mm.

However in the brochure it says 1,630mm (must include mirrors) Plus 4 says 1,720mm

Hope this helps
