Solar PV at the N-M ranch
I know that one or two of the TM regulars are also micro generators, so I thought I would post our new installation up for anyone interested. It's a 4KW system and it went live at the end of last week, but with so little bright weather over the last few days we have not generated very much electricity so far. Cheers, N-M

Ground source heat pumps are great if you have an air tight house with good insulation. GSHPs are very common in Denmark, I think. I also understand that, in the area of Aarhus, for example, industrial 'waste' in the form of heat is pumped underground and households in the area can tap into that heat source. As a result their heating bills are relatively low.
If only our house was insulated and draft free ! I think I would need an industrial sized GSHP to keep this place warm in winter.
I am looking into a biomass boiler system coupled with a solar thermal set up.

Despite low light levels it is working well.

Was that Chernobyl I seem to recall there was a problem with the On/Off Control there I hadn't heard about their system interesting.

My half sister works in Kiev and mid winter they have had -40C for a few days and -20 is a normal winters day. I guess necessity is the Mother of invention with the heating over there. I don't feel the cold much but I would hate not being able to jump in the Morgan for a quick run out anytime. Brass Monkeys doesn't even begin the story out there.

Aarhus was where I first saw a ground source heat pump. Controlled the air con in summer too and they still made enough to sell it back to the grid. Fantastic. Oh, and it was a factory built house more stunning than 99% over here but there's such snobbery with such things.

It's amazing how far ahead of us the rest of Europe seems in some areas, a friend and ex colleague built a kit house in Bavaria complete with GSHP in 1978 and I didn't even know what it was.
