I noticed that the V5 lists my car as a Morgan 4/4, when it is clearly a Plus 4. I did attempt to correct the model when I transferred the car to my own name, but the DVLA chose to ignore the change annotated on my application form.

My question is, does this matter, or has anyone else experienced the same, is it worth persuing?

Thanks.

It seems quite normal. My Roadster is described as a 4/4. Not sure if my P4 is the same without checking, but I suspect if it isn't on the drop down, it can't be changed.

I expect the factory registered the car as a 4/4 for type approval etc as the cars are basically the same but with different engines. I expect it means they don’t have to crash test for each model variant if they are all 4/4s. Bit like a 3 series with different engines

I guess it could matter to any future buyer..? My guess is that you could aply to the MMC for conformation of it`s specification as built by them which they can or could once supply for a fee.... Other than that you can perhaps confirm the engine being that of a +4 is original to the car relative to the numbers on it matching those stamped elsewhere on the car.. All assuming is still is.. sherlock

I do have the original invoice and correspondence from Morgan dated 22/7/97 showing it as a Plus 4. I was just wondering if was a common error by the DVLA.

An additional question, I note people referring to the series number, anyone know how I identify this?

It's not an error. Here is an extract from an email exchange between myself and Mark Leddington of MMC last year:

"From a type approval perspective, we homologated 3 variants of the traditional cars (all based on the ‘4/4’ model type as this was the most economical way to do this) and so we ended up with these variants - 4/4 1800 (4/4)
4/4 2000 (+4)
4/4 3000 (Roadster"

This came to light when I was arguing with the French registration authorities regarding my Plus 4 that I imported from Italy.

My 1993 Plus 4 is registered as a 4/4. All original docs, order form and invoice show Plus 4.

There used to be an early Roadster which was registered as a 4/4 on it's V5, it was also charged 4/4 roadtax, so a considerable saving ££ each year
