On a recent trip to Chester the car was hit by a Van while parked in the Hotel Car Park. At least the guy owned up and came to find me, but he basically ran over the rear wing with his rear tyre because it was dark and he thought the shiny bit (Over rider) was the edge of my car, maybe time to consider full width bumpers!

I filmed the video in the link below before setting off home, mainly for evidence in case the guys insurance decided to act up. So far his insurance has accepted liability and agreed to pay for the repair, but we'll see what they think when the get the quote. I take it to Ledgerwood on 25th to be assessed and get a quote.

I was in two minds about driving it but the damage looked limited to the wing so I secured the indicator and reflector with Duct Tape and hoped the the wing brace didn't foul the tyre while driving as it was disconnected from the inner wing. We got home without incident and I have since removed the wing brace.

Just thought I'd share the experience, probably therapeutic for myself.

What a shame. Hope it all gets fixed soon for you Mark. At least nobody was in the car at the time and the driver owned up. Too many people would have just driven off these days.

Mark, sorry to hear about the damage

The rear panel looks undamaged so hopefully as the wing distorted it wrenched out the rear woodscrews (in a sacrificial way) so should just be a wing off job

Luckily that damage looks limited to the wing. Possible lights damage too but nothing major. The decision to repair or replace the wing will depend on how much deformation has occurred in the metal. If repair then be wary about a lot of filler being used.
About 5 years ago a neighbour bumped into the rear wing on my car causing a small dent. A dent repairer did a great job of teasing it out. No paint damage luckily. £80 and about 30 minutes.

Absolutely repairable but best done by a body shop that understands Morgans. MMC wings are not supplied ready to fit, they have to be trimmed and fettled before painting and fixing.
An Insurance job, replace or beat out, fill and re-paint? I'd insist on a new wing.

Thanks for the opinions, much appreciated.

Had the car to Ledgerwood this afternoon, didn't have any argument they said straight off a New Wing and lights would need to be fitted, painted etc. Luckily (doesn't feel it) no damage inboard of the wing.

Regards

I bought a Jaguar XJ at a reduced price because a Transit van had reversed into the rear wing and dented it across the swage line but no paint damage…. I expected / allowed for it to go to a body shop for a repair but showed it to a Dent Master guy …. He spent 2 hours knocking it out and got it spot on.

I would run it past a local dent guy - they have all sorts of special tools to bend metal back into shape

I just watched the video. Quite a bit of deformation! I doubt a dent repairer would sort that easily, hence the new wing route. The light reflections show a long-ish line through the lights and the wing edge pushed out quite a bit.
I bet the van owner’s insurer will be impressed by the cost! Watch out for them trying it on for cost share with your insurer!
