I saw a post in the paper or on the web; that this or the next government wants to ban private vehicle ownership. It does not bother so much as i am now in my mid 60`s, but this may be the way in the future.
If this comes to fruition then i would be glad to say i had one.

I am surprised at the number of teenagers and University students I talk too who have no desire to own a car, considered to be costly would prefer to rent when necessary. Perhaps banning private vehicle ownership is a way forward.

That "way forward" forces a New York City model as being ideal. No way Jose', not going to happen... NYC is a perfect example of what NOT to be. Can you see one of those idealists living and working on a farm? No, not even commuting to a farm, an energy facility or a factory that actually produces something in the USA like steel? Where would they make commute vehicles, like trains and buses and ships?

Once autonomous really happens, there will be little need for car ownership. These things sit idle/parked for the overwhelming majority of the day. This usage model is perfect for rental or pay per use if there is an adequate autonomous fleet, which likely will be supplied.

There are several people at my work, young mostly, who don’t own a car and use Uber for their daily commute. I suspect they’ve got this right from a costs perspective. Car ownership is costly and a hassle.

The one thing mankind is good at, is mobility. From walking to running, horses to horsepower, swimming to rowing and sailing, Earth to the moon and beyond. For that reason, elimination of private ownership is hard to imagine (at least in the West). It's unfortunate (at least in the U.S.) that in the rush to individualism after WWII, we dismantled urban public transportation systems, trolleys and trains, etc.that should be part of an environmental solution.

My guess is, at some point, 'daily driver' needs can be adaquately met with public/shared options. Let's face it, few people use the cars parked in their driveways 100% of the time so fractional or shared use has merit. And would we then need as much black asphalt? I do hope there will always be a place in our garages for toys. Maybe those toys get taxed differently.

I not absolutely sure if this is still the case but 3 wheelers used to be classified as motorcycles, from the motorcycle and sidecar days with restrictions on weight etc and could be driven on a motorcycle licence. If they are still classed as motorcycles then it could be from 2035 before the new ICE three wheeler sales are UK prohibited.

IMHO Morgan use an off the shelf drivetrain that other manufacturers develop at their great expense. When pure ICE are banned, as they will be at some point, Morgan will look for the next suitable power option and build that into their cars irrespective of how many wheels it has. Or existing carbon based fuel types will disappear to be replaced by another fuel that works in an ICE but produces no environmental problems.

But to ban private ownership of transport? Don't see that happening IMHO.

Well "Jose" will wait and see, they used to say man would never fly and certainly never go to the Moon. Private ownership may not be banned but could be made very expensive that makes it prohibitive and not practical certainly in major cities, who knows we certainly don't but I do know progress will lead to major change.

Their great ideas fail when they and their partner have children. Suddenly public transport becomes a real pain. What they may buy into is shared vehicle on demand, but in both cases they won't want to live in city centres that discriminate against cars. In our family my nephew and partner moved from a glorious apartment in Wimbledon became a victorian detached house in Purley, plus a car..
