Hi
As a new owner I getting my 78 Mog ready for its MOT. The indicator stalk didn't work for a left turn & I've ordered a new one.
The reason I think the stalk has broken is because its been rubbing on the bottom corner of the cut out of the dashboard and there's wear on the leather covering.

When I refit the stalk, there are two locating "lugs" either side of the steering column to get the position right. When in place the new stalk catches the dash just as the old one did. This suggests either the steering column is wrongly positioned or the dash is. The dash sits flush to the ash frame so I'm confused!

Anyone had a similar problem

Thanks for your help

When i fitted same, I found that it was possible to fit it too close to the dash, so has to slide it and the switch on the other side, towards the driver. Is this possible with yours.

BTW have you checked that there is no longer a fault with the new unit wired-in?

Hi I had to replace the stalk on my 1991 4/4.
The one I took off had a dog leg bent into it.
My stalk was a the Triumph Dolomite.I had to bend the new one carefully with tape wrapped around it and gently using a vice.
Hope this helps. There is a thread on the subject in the maintenance forum.
Regards Andrew

As the previous correspondent states, the stalk has to be "modified" so that it fits properly! Take care as it is an expensive thing to break. It needs a double bend in it to move the knob nearer the wheel rim.

(My car is 1972 and the stalk is a Lucas one, a picture is at http://web.me.com/jeremyedwards996/Morgan_4_4_Rebuild/Blog/Entries/2010/10/10_Running_Pains.html)

Beware of fitting a metal cover I did and its not long befor the stalk rubbing against the metal gets worn and fuses the indicators each time you use them . I threaded some double glazing rubber around the metal and its done the trick . But the stalks are so near the s/wheel I had to fit a slightly dished s/wheel if not I catch both of them when turning the wheel
