Simon asked me to give you some more information on the filler cap solution.

The pictures show the original (old) tubes, the charcoal filter and the new tube, provided by MMC, that was fitted last week.

Filler caps are very complicated today, not only a tube and a cap like I had thought six months ago.

Probably the rule 'form follows function' was ignored by the designer.

Roderich

Sorry for the mess. I tried Flickr and it didn't work. Simon told me to use photobucket and it doesn't work. Obviously, I'm the problem.

They do provide the necessary IMG code, Roderich (the last of the 4 links on the page).

eg:

(your 2nd and 3rd links were the same)

Thank you, Chris. As I said, I was the problem. I added the third picture. This time with success...

Chris (and I) posted a few pictures ('Tourer - Filler Cap' - trad. Morgans) that show the problem and a solution for the cars from 2006 to 2007. The newest cars from 09/2007(?) will have a different filler cap. As far as I know Miscellany shows it.

Roderich, thanks for the photos - can you talk us through what you changed? Did you do the modification? And is it 'just' (I'm sure it was a lot of work) a mod from rubber pipes to metal? Who actually created the new part?

You need to be more specific for the non-technical members... i.e. ME! grin2

One must be very careful filling the new 4 seaters. The site of the filler and the shape of the wing and exhaust pipe has caused some nasty scares.

Click here http://www.gomog.com/temp/fourseaterfiller1.jpg for a picture. Follow the trail spilled petrol will follow.

A severe case of 'Form over Function' by the look of it; or is it a case of 'cost engineering'?

Simon,

'Did YOU do the modifications?' You made my day smile

I'll try to explain as good as I can what my Morgan agent did:

It was a change from the big rubber pipe to the metal one and a new filler cap. From outside it looks like the old one turned 60 degrees to the left. As I understood the new one is shorter to allow a better flow. Before there was a 90 degree angle that was one reason for the problems. The old pipe and the filler cap had to be removed. One pipe was cut and the new parts were fitted. I took about two to three hours.

All parts came from Malvern. I presume MMC produced them.

Btw, Julf mentioned some days ago it looked like a sculpture and I answered I had ordered a second one and a marble stone...

BR, Roderich

I am a little puzzled by all this talk of fuel filling problems, I did not have any, other than the fuel gauge not reaching full which the factory seem to say is normal.

I would causion anyone from tinkering with the fuel cap though because the engine management system monitors it somehow and an ill fitting cap can cause the system to flag up a fault on the dash.

I've spoken to Steve Simmonds about the electrical connection to the fuel filler and he is able to install an Aero cap whilst retaining all the functionality of the OE design.

Apparently, it's not a major problem. grin2
