Yesterday we went to Mumbles to meet sospan jnr and partner and baby. Light lunch in Verdi’s. Main road was busy, creeping along traffic.
On returning on the same road, again creeping in traffic, a couple were on a small island in the middle of the road. It had drop kerbs and likely to allow wheelchairs etc. Co-driver queried whether they had right to cross. It was NOT a pedestrian crossing. I said no. I described how thought it applied to side road junctions. My thoughts were that the wrong person waiting there could force traffic on a busy road to stop traffic to enforce their “precedence for right of way”.
So, confusion can occur and idiots create situations out of bloody mindedness.
So far I have seen most comments about vehicles and the onus on drivers but very few about the responsibilities of others apart from a small amount of cyclists and horse riders and even less about pedestrians.
There are minorities in all groups who behave like knobs and I fear we will see their behaviour being reinforced. My dashcam is going to be a useful insurance.

Already had one couple who seemed to think that a light controlled crossing, on red for pedestrians, did not apply to them...

I agree re the DashCam - going to be critical to insurance in the future I suspect. Mine has shutdown a number of loud fools who claimed I cut them up and have been shown the video that proves otherwise. A few really bad clips have been sent to the police - https://www.nextbase.com/en-gb/national-dash-cam-safety-portal/ Turning on the audio and doing the "voice summary" can also be very useful to the clip, unless the boss is in the car in which case it usually gets the defeat button pushed pretty quickly...ouch.

This car/pedestrian(bike) relationship has long been the case in the US as I observe it. However there is a different approach to crossing in the US, if you don't do it on the correct crossing you can be prosecuted for jaywalking. I could be wrong and am always happy to be corrected. I do not see that being added at the same time as the rule change here? The issue is when both sides are not aware which is often during a change over not really seriously announced.

Perhaps there will be a new youtoob channel start to appear showing the worst pedestrian/cyclist/moron actions a bit like those wonderful Russian car accident channels.

On a positive note I had to renew my driving licence today. I needed my current licence, NI number, passport and a credit/debit card (£14) and it took about 10 mins on-line. It used my passport photo and was great. None of the old post office two step. I do believe there is light at the end of the IT tunnel in .gov!

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Ah yes the U.S. is different....for many years I drove while visiting the U.S. on business/holidays, and decided to get a California driver's licence. That was in the days when you had to turn-up at the DMV in Sacramento and take a short practical test; I was told I almost got 100% but was docked a point because I did not turn right against a red light. (It was just ingrained in me not to do that kind of thing). Imagine the chaos/accidents if that approach was introduced in the UK with scarcely any warning.....
(Oh and in some states you can turn LEFT against a red light, Read All Abah't It at https://axleaddict.com/safety/Obscure-Driving-Regulations-Ignorance-is-no-excuse )
