Then I wonder why Morgan bought the rights to the ACE if they already had that IP....?
Larsen is a fabulous engineer (albeit a shonky designer) so I imagine they wanted to see how he'd used modern principles and parts to reproduce the old style (and remove any competition)

Not sure how the bidding works on BaT, but it went from $21,000 to $42,000 in one bid. Lot of money for a plastic replica A replica of what....? Pre-War V Twin Morgans? Not hard to see where the intial inspiration came from. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/01/31/Morgan_Aero_JAP_V-twin_3_wheeler_1925_1098cc_28725627532.jpg) Then I wonder why Morgan bought the rights to the ACE if they already had that IP....?
I think it is a bit more complicated than that. Pete Larson wanted to buy a Triking but Tony Divey was not a well man at that time (he had had a stroke) and Pete gave up and decided to build his own. When he had virtually stopped working Tony offered me a LHD Triking that he had started to build for an American. I often wondered if Pete Larson was his "lost" customer. So we have a circle: the Morgan that inspired the Triking that inspired the Liberty Ace that inspired the Morgan (M3W) I imagine that the original idea was for Morgan to build the Liberty Ace design with a Morgan ash framed aluminium body but somewhere along the line they (unfortunately) kept modifying the design till it finished up a cat of a different colour.

Many thanks for that Peter. Good to see you back on these pages. A valued contribution as always.

Some adventurous bidding in this auction with a couple of days left. Not sure how the bidding works on BaT, but it went from $21,000 to $42,000 in one bid. Lot of money for a plastic replica I am an avid watcher of the BaT auction site as you know and it is not unusual for bids to "gap" Seems to happen where the bidder is confident and wants to sort out the "bargain hunters" who think they can snip a prize Similar to a knockout bid at any auction that can frighten off the competition

I think I'm more of a sniper, and would rather pay 10p more than the next highest bidder. I didn't know whether it was like the eBay system where you stick in the highest amount you want to pay, and it bids up for you based on other bids. It's certainly a bold move to offer $21,000 more than the previous bid. Still, it's his money, he can do what he likes with it.

TBM, It works much better than EBay. It is an interesting process to watch. Pick an auction that is closing and see how it's done - can be very entertaining....
