You ride a horse, but I think you 'drive' a horse drawn carriage?

So, it depends on the seating arrangements. Bikes and horses have saddles, coaches and cars have seats. Therefore a 3 wheeler converted from a bike, with a saddle is ridden, a 3 wheeler based on a car, with seats, is driven!

I'd agree with that smile

Ohio has a funny license law for 3 Wheelers. If you can ride in it you only need a car driver's license but if you straddle it you need a motorcycle license. But my MTW is licensed as a motorcycle. Took 20 minutes at the DMV for them to figure out how it was going to be titled. They came up with the designation Auto Cycle.

Iowa is the same, cars, trucks, motorcycles, and auto cycles. The M3W cost the same as a MC to license, but no helmet required. When I cross the river into Nebraska it magically becomes a motorcycle, and I need a helmet.

Same for Washington State. We call ours motorcycles, probably for car pool lane restrictions.
