Hello all, One of the bars on my grill has detached. Any advice on how to repair? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/02/02/447EC4B2-30B4-4B04-90ED-464E4380065C.jpg) Is from my 66 plus 4. I’m barely competent at soldering pipe fittings. Was thinking maybe find someone that knows about doing this.

Isn't this part is covered by the cowl? If so, what about drilling a miniscule hole (using a punch first, so the drill doesn't slide sideways) and fixing the bar with a small screw and nut? alternativly a self-tappering metal screw? Perhaps not super elegant, but maybe satisfactory if it is not visible.

Self-tapping, I meant... If you use a punch, the best is an automatic one, no need for a hammer. You just press it hard against the metal, and a spring releases the pointed bolt that makes a little dent to place your burr. Very cheap, neat, small and convenient for everbody that works with a drill on a hard surface once in a while.

I believe they are soldered on ex factory. It might be the much higher temperature silver solder that's used though. Not sure how easily it could be re-attached by such means without damaging finish though.

Hi there, Had the same issue a few years ago. As soldering is quite difficult on what seems to be chromed brass parts, I tried several types of glue - all to no effect. I eventually fixed the loose bars by drilling small holes into bars and base plate (Oh you have to be confident !) and joining them to the base using aluminum rivets. Since the fixed area is covered by the cowl , you can's see anything from the exterior. Peace of mind.
Cheers

That can certainly be resoldered without marking the chrome as long as you have a large enough copper soldering iron!

In the absence of something to solder with, I would properly fill the top inch or so of the inside of the bar with some type of epoxy of JB Weld, and thendrill through and use a small self tapper from the back side.
Or drill the hole from the back side first and glue a small M4 bolt into the inside of the bar, again using JB Weld or epoxy and then nip it up once set.
Either way would result in a hidden repair.

If you can get hold of some Belzona Molecular I'm sure that will work, sort of a JB weld but far better and horrendously expensive!
