There is a thread that covers this in great detail if you have a search.

Replacing rubber bushes is mechanicaly easy but seats / propshaft tunnel and gearbox cover have to come out. If you can lift the gear lever and wobble it about. the bushes are the problem.

i renewed the bushes with cutting the top of the gearbox cover. Afterwords i repaired it with flat strips aluminium bolted in the 2 sides along the cutted line. Put some tape over it for fumes and the carpet… all perfect again ! it isn't a structural piece ... just tin plate . I was indeed pushing the hole gear shift support against the rotating axle flange.... with the noise of a near exploding gear box ... rubbers were complete worn. If needed , i can easely acces them again.... just some screws

Rob, there is a dome shaped piece (ball cover) that sits over the gear lever & is held down by a tab. On mine the tab broke & caused a rattle plus difficulty shifting. I got a replacement from Rimmers but short term pop riveted on a made up tab. John http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/remoteissues.html

How do you know if a 1992 Rover engine is a T16 or M16? The engine number is 20HE23100618. Having a problem identifying needed oil seals.

Thanks John. It does have a distributor. I'm looking for seals and gaskets for this engine. Any thoughts for a parts source? I'm at a loss.

If its a 92 reg its an M16, early T16' s also had an electronic Distributor, bit confusing, but the M16 as standard had a tubular manifold and the T16 'as standard' had a cast manifold and a catalyst.
