Please can anyone confirm whether the lock used on the flat plastic filler flap is a LR Discovery 1 item? I need to replace mine, as I have to spend quite a few minutes getting the key to just the right level of insertion for the lock to work. This is inevitably associated with much cursing, and peering over the top of my glasses at the marks I have scribed on the key.......

See "https://www.newton-equipment.com/classic-300-range.html". The problem that you are having seems to be common. I replaced the locking cap on mine and the new one was exactly the same! Now I don't bother with the locking portion and have done many miles without any problems.

Thanks for the reply. On my car, the fuel flap locks over a recessed petrol cap, which was an arrangement used for just a few years (as I understand it). I'm told that to use a cap like the Newton one requires a plate adding to the back panel to allow the cap to sit on top of the panel, rather than in the (cosmetically very ugly) recess. Using a plate then needs some juggling with the assorted breather pipes etc underneath.

If I could find a way of inserting a non-locking quarter turn latch onto the current filler flap I'd do so, as (like you) I'm not bothered about security, either.

FWIW my locking part requires regular oil in lock and silicone grease on outer part to operate smoothly.

Thank you for the link, but unfortunately not. The lock arrangement on the "flap" cars looks like this one

with the lock body inserting through the plastic flap, and the black latch piece turning through 90 degrees to locate under a striker plate within the recess in which the (non-locking) petrol cap sits. So the diameter and depth of the entire mechanism has to be exactly correct to fit the hole in the flap, and the recess. I'm 99% certain the item in the link is correct (albeit with a black escutcheon, unlike the chrome one on the car). I was hoping that someone had been around this loop already, and could confirm matters.
