My 1992 4/4 had 22k on the clock when I bought it mid 2009
It now has 30k +
It had signs of "stagnation" but has improved no end since. Feels much better now.
I am 3rd owner
Owner 1 - 21k+ miles in 16 years!
Owner 2 - 750 miles in a year!
The car feels much more settled than when bought. Feels better in steering and engine response.
Some minor issues with bad earths - to be expected with lots of idleness.
I can't understand having a car like this and not using it.
I love the driving - back to basic stuff with good feel etc. As for the hard ride, it is not an issue unless i hit a biggish bump at speed in error. Its a case of growing into the car and enjoying real driving again. Some weird "sensations and thoughts" on some bends though!
"Bloody hell this is a tough bend" and the like!
Good fun though without overreaching at any time.
longest run so far is well over 200 miles - puny I know - with no ill effects or gripes about the ride.
As for modernisation of suspension etc - doesn't come that high on my list for wants, just a few tweeks re spring variation etc would be fine. Maybe a mod for future if i keep the car. An upgrade is a serious thought at moment - +4 /Plus8/Roadster/
Not that far down that road yet. Maybe next year.

Exactly where I am coming from Dave. I hope they hurry up with it though. I'm already 65 oldgit and I don't know how many more new cars I am likely to be able to buy.

your post sounds quite right. It´s like with guitars. An (old) instrument is only a good one when you play it. Those people who don´t use their cars have no idea about what they are missing...
