I am very fortunate in where I live, many people travel for hours to get to enjoy what is on my doorstep each and every day. Living at the coast and opposite a small lake/park, we have the usual summer hordes that descend and we increasingly dislike the mobile homes that park up outside, block most of the road trying to dodge the overnight park fees at the designated parking area with the correct toilet and shower facilities paid for out of the local residents council taxes. Some are very inconsiderate absolute freeloaders that get the locals up in arms and the problem is growing. So much so that parking restrictions are being considered to literally move the problem on. As is the norm a few spoil it for the many.

I certainly would not consider a mobile home.......given the choice I would suggest move closer to where you enjoy the most....countryside/coast whatever and keep the traffic off the roads. Yesterday a 17 mile queue on the M6 near Preston due to an accident, the roads filled with people heading to either the coast or the lakes. That's why over bank holidays we stay home and enjoy the quiet serenity of the beach walks with the locals before the crowds start to descend from 10am onwards, fortunately come 4/5pm they are heading back leaving the area for the locals to enjoy to themselves again. Who wants to sit in a traffic jam on a warm/hot summers day.....doesn't sound like fun to me. Many of our neighbours also have a place in the Lakes about hour drive away.....but come BH and busy summer weekends stay where they are rather than face the horrendous traffic jams and over crowded tourist spots.

Excellent solution - I thought it was a Mathewson collection for a second or two... a practical chap I guess and it works.

Living on the Edge of the New Forest we face exactly the same issues. One big advantage of being retired is that we can use the "working week" to go out and stay at home when the hordes come.
Motor caravans are kept under tight control by the National Park people and the Police as overnight parking other than on a paid campsite is an offence and the fines are enough to make sure people only do it once. Wild camping is also an offence.

We don't get tourists.

We hired a six-berth motor home for the two of us for the Goodwood Revival this year. Put me off for life and has even stronger views. Never mind that it was as wide as a full blown truck, the shower was rubbish - more like a drip on a stick, the bed (so called) was uncomfortable. The cooking facilities were also limited. Our chums who own such monstrosities generally eat at pubs at lunchtime and snack in the van in the evening; or vice versa. As said before we could afford a lot of nice hotels for the price of something worth having with a bed on wheels. Mind you we did see some accommodation based on an articulated trailer with wind out sections. I guess if I was wealthy enough I could rent one and have some lackey set it up for me.

If thinking of buying one my advice would be to hire one first. This could stop one making an expensive mistake
