Interesting (if somewhat heated) discussion on the plus-8 DNA. If it is called a trad and it looks like a trad, it must be a trad. But I'd guess driving it feels more like driving an Aero than a Roadster or an Rover engined V8. Going back to Frank's original question, if there was only one demonstrator available (for a test drive I presume?) I would defenitely hope it was a new plus8 because I have never driven an Aero hide
Would I buy it? Nothing wrong with the concept and the engine IMO, but not 100% sure about the looks yet (wheels more than width) and the price overhere, with guzzler tax added, will be Stratospheric. At the moment my money would go to the 3.7 Roadster. (is it being built yet?) Cheers J

At the risk of droning on, where is the engineering link between the last Plus 8 with a Rover engine and the new Plus8+? Where is the common DNA?

The Plus8+ DNA is Aero. It's as simple as that. Looks like a trad from the side for sure. It will buffet the driver in exactly the same way as a 'proper' trad, and leak in all the same places as a trad. But to those who want the full experience of prewar chassis engineering, it can't deliver, whether it's perceived as a trad or not.

Lets hope it ticks the right boxes of enough buyers, whatever their perceptions. laugh2

Ah.If we are going to talk about DNA it is a cross. Let us hope it is an evolution that will become a new breed, not a mule that can not breed.

Picture my scenario from a different angle, if I may. Imagine you are a Dealer who already has some new 4/4's, +4's and Roadster Trads plus some other second users in all models as well as the new Trike. work

You can only have one new one, so which one of the +8 or the 3.7 Roadster would you stock in order to entice your customers to come in and hopefully buy spend ?

Just my 2p worth smile

The width of the Trad (and the Aero!) is one of the many shibboleths of eMog, which is now gone but is largely unmourned in this country. wink

smile ok I'd have the +8 because in your scenario it would be a bit more distant (performance and cost?) from the others and would possibly act as a good halo model to encourage others in and to buy spend

As for the banter and discussion, been enlightening, interesting and entertaining thumbs

Cheers

Is the three wheeler club really that recent? I imagined it would have been around a lot longer.

If I were to look for an Aero, it would be an S4, not the new Plus8+, because with the modern underpinnings I would want the Aero shape - (hypothetically speaking of course). grin2

Strip out the hyperbole and we have much in common Dave. Describe the Aero as an evolution, even as a step-change, but seismic certainly doesn't reflect what happened at the time.

When the Aero was introduced, you may remember that Lotus had already brought out the Elise with a bonded chassis and this was followed a few years later by formerly conservative Aston Martin bringing out their own bonded aluminium chassis, so Morgan's development was 'in period'.

With Charles' racing background we were certainly expecting changes, but the Aero 8 was certainly ahead of any changes we expected him to make to the range and in Morgan terms was certainly radical! smile

I agree that customers become the arbiters of which model is successful and which is not, but manufacturers retain the right to name their cars. If MMC want to call it a Plus 8, then to my mind that is what it is and not a Plus 8+ or an Aero V as it is called on MogWire; that IMHO is just being totally juvenile. ooo

Lastly, you say that MG was riddled with different opinions on various models and as I had a new RV8 (not my first MG) when they came out I also experienced some of the same nonsense in that community that Aero 8 owners received in the Morgan community, and which resulted ultimately in the formation of the Aero 8 Club.

As Boshers said above, hopefully this thinking had been "left behind with more recent advances in the Morgan community's thinking? Forgive me if I'm incorrect."

Let's just enjoy our Mog's whatever model we drive and in my case, I'm really looking forward to getting my M3W...

IMHO I am not at all concerned at what it is called - the only thing I am interested in is whether or not it is a good car and whether I can afford it if it is!!

Until it is in production the jury is out on the first point (although I suspect it will be fantastic) sadly there is absolute certainty about the second as I certainly don't have that sort of money!!-- However there is always the lottery!!!

Seriously guys, let's just be happy there is a new Morgan and therefore something we can enjoy speculating about!!!!!

Cheers!
