Tax is coming in the form of a distance travelled and when and where tax, not on the energy source, rumour is they may add this on top of ice cars as well, simple mode for none techy cars is just to put another cost blanket tax on distance travelled at time of not.

Oh what fun!

We have enjoyed our pleasures too cheaply and it's time to put some back for the oncoming generations smile bring it on..

Spoken as someone that has almost always had a V8 in the stable just for the sheer joy of it and for that I thank our American cousins in petrol clap

The level of taxation on motoring etc is becoming a serious economic inhibitor and certainly punishing disproportionately the poor in our society and now a major continuing influence on all elements of our daily cost of living and its upward inflationary spiral, it touches everything from the basics of life eg transportation cost and resultant food prices.

I wouldn't mind so much but not only have many of the main arterial roads and motorways mostly been built in my lifetime and out of my taxes paid over the last 50 odd years and I am still continuing to still pay taxes, they are considering charging me again for the pleasure of using the same roads I previously helped finance to build.

What a screwed up world we have and with the likes of Russia now signing deals with China and Pakistan for Russian gas which will be diverted from supplying Europe, we are in for a whole lot of unnecessary pain had we been mature enough to recognise that we need to balance the impact and future sustainability on the economies of both producers and consumers of fossil fuels......rather than the half arsed uncoordinated solutions with individual national token reductions in global emissions, that do not recognise the impact on the producers or on future fossil fuels prices and assuring continuing supply lines for fossil fuel consumers economies whilst we try to ween ourselves off fossil fuels.

A storm is coming, and the UK has neither energy or food security in this perfect meltdown that is just around the corner, the brunt of which will be borne disproportionately by the world's poor.

Time to buy an Austin 7 and see how they attach a data log to that!

That's not unknown in Yorkshire.

Somebody I worked with in the seventies had an electric meter in a cupboard in the hall with a rotating disc behind glass, remember those?
He discovered if he unscrewed it from the wall and laid it across the hall floor, the disc slowed right down.
He put it back for the meter man.

Also in the 70s, many old style gas meters had a steel vane.. put a big magnet on the case and the vane stopped..but the gas flowed.
For the electricity meter if the input and output were reversed the meter unwound..i'm told...

I nearly electrocuted myself doing up a buy to let I had purchased in Lowestoft. Had turned all the electrics off at the fuse board, cut through a cable supplying the electric power shower & got huge throbbing feeling in my arm, the shower had been wired the wrong side of the meter & bypassed the fusebox. A decent pair of insulated wire cutters saved me. These days I use a decent proximity tester to see if anything is live before going anywhere near it.

There was talk back in the 60's when I started an apprentiship with the CEGB that meter readings could be tweaked by changing the power factor of appliances. It seems though that even the early induction disc meters, which measured only current in phase with voltage and hence gave real power readings v reactive power.

This image best explains the difference innocent
