IMHO I am not at all concerned at what it is called - the only thing I am interested in is whether or not it is a good car and whether I can afford it if it is!!
Until it is in production the jury is out on the first point (although I suspect it will be fantastic) sadly there is absolute certainty about the second as I certainly don't have that sort of money!!-- However there is always the lottery!!!
Seriously guys, let's just be happy there is a new Morgan and therefore something we can enjoy speculating about!!!!!
Cheers! Hi Robbie, I'll keep my fingers crossed that if I'm not the successful lottery winner, you are As for the rest, thats the beauty of TM, other than one post from a newbie who we know little about, that I felt was a bit 'pointed'; it's good honest informative discussion and debate. What we know is a slightly sensitive subject is dealt with respectfully and maturely. We are all entitled to our opinions and TM and it's fantastic members seems to be able to accomodate this amongst healthy debate Somewhat sycophantic I know, but true, so thanks Simon and all 'you lot' Now, back to you Robbie, coming over for Xmas lunch? You know you want to and I can accommodate
Cheers

ok I'd have the +8 because in your scenario it would be a bit more distant (performance and cost?) from the others and would possibly act as a good halo model to encourage others in and to buy My choice for my Dealer would be the +8 (no disrespect to the Beautiful Roadster) Why??? 1. Because it is NEW, an Aero Based 'Trad' and not just another Trad or Roadster. 2. It should become a Limited Edition if the available Engine numbers are correct. 3. I could have my Demonstrator made with the full set of Bonnet Louvers and Painted in 'TOK' Le Mans Green and even have a White Hard Top made for it as an Extra. 4. I could then encourage my customer/s to choose this trim pack and then join MiniKeefie's Le Mans 62 Register (I am sure he would welcome another/few new member/s) 5. I could, Maybe, take it with me( along with my order book)to Le Mans Classic and MSCC Holland event next year and book either Keith Ahlers, Billy Bellinger, Richard Shepherd-Barron (or all three) to show it off for me around the tracks. 6. I am sure then, The wealthy Racing Fraternity could soon adopt it as a new competition class (Could I or Would I ask for exclusivity on a Track Ready version?) The danger in all of this speculation for me as a customer would be letting SWMBO near it at the dealers as I inadvertently did with the R100 launch. Having just fended off her agreeing a deal for a new Series 4 Aero 8 (too wide to fit our small garage ), along came the R100 and I was snookered .

But to those who want the full experience of prewar chassis engineering, it can't deliver, whether it's perceived as a trad or not. Does anyone rationally really want that? Presumably, if they do they will also want cross ply tyres with old natural rubber, old style brake linings and front drum brakes.

There's a whole range of what people want Howard. The Flat Rad brigade really do want the whole experience. Wherever we sit on the spectrum of motoring nirvana, it can be hard to see the appeal of other positions, but that's what makes the classic scene what it is today. Very few manufacturers today can offer such a range of experiences. I chose Morgan (traditional) because I didn't want a sanitised sports car experience. I much prefer the rawness of a flexible chassis and primitive suspension, admittedly on a hobby car. But from the performance angle, then I can accept radial tyres and adjustable dampers. A pick n' mix it's true, but that's bespoke for you!!

As for Katoens comments regarding the width, what a load of codswallop.
We are not on different sides here. You apparently feel very strongly that this vehicle should not be perceived as another Aero variation. I understand how you feel and fully sympathize with you. In fact, I feel the same way about it being erroneously grouped with Morgan Classics. But if we can remember that far back, slapping a few Ferrari body panels on a VW Beetle did not make the result a Ferrari. It remained a Beetle by any standard. Same here. They will not be making a new parts manual for this one. They will use the same parts manual used with the Aero Super Sports, not the one with trad parts. I adhere to DaveW's DNA arguments. Traditional Morgans remain in a class of their own as they allow, amongst other things, the fullest interaction between owner and car, in an age where manufacturers discourage that. That level of interaction is not possible with the Aero line. That is the dividing line between the two Morgan types. In any event, it does not make sense to buy a new car with an engine that went out of production prior to purchase. If I want more power in a new Morgan, the Roadster 3.7 is the wiser route from any point of view.
