Ouch.
I was thinking on a cost per sea mile basis, but that sounds worse than IoM (never mind IoW) travel.

Cheers,

Whether or not the engine is in production is not a critera I would worry about when buying a new Mog or any other car, for instance the 911 is about to get a new engine but that wouldn't put me off the current model, and even when the engine is still current the specs change, ie euroVI emissions will soon be upon us

You say the Roadster 3.7 is the wiser route, but when did wisdom have anything to do with buying Morgans? crazy2

What a great discussion . It seems that it's important that the +8 is "pigeon holed " into one half or the other ? Not sure why.

Can't wait to see when the EVA get's released where that will sit redcard

While I have remained out of this discussion (because I really don't care either way - for me it's another Morgan, plain and simple, though I understand Dave W's dilemma) I would dispute your comments above.
Yes, there is a lot of interaction with a trad. I love the pure driving experience of my '76 4/4. But there is also a lot of interaction with an Aero8 (particularly the Series 1). It is a car (like e.g. TVRs) that requires full driver input - drive it wrong and it will bite (and bite hard as a number of owners of early Aero8s found out!). There is no pampering inadequate driver ability with lots of electronic gizmos a la Scooby, Skyline, Porker etc.
The Aero8, and it's derivatives, is still very much a pure drivers' car. Just a shame I can't afford one frown

Cheers,

I've tried to resist adding more to this...........
But my willpower is weak.
I'd be interested to know how the crash testing/type approval issues have been, or will be addressed, or even if it would be required. I suppose what I'm getting at here is that there may be an exemption where a similar chassis has already been tested.

Maybe we shouldn't be considering two pigeon holes - that's a good point. Maybe there are three - or more. grin2

Well said and a good point.

I just don't know why some are so keen to create a rift? (I know I don't help by rising to the bait laugh2 )

I don't think it really makes any difference at all, but our new friend seems intent on bringing that up as it's the second time he mentions it.

I would be keen to know what Morgan Katoen drives, if it is a Morgan, as forgive me but that does have an influence. I am presuming it's a new model trad with a current engine? banghead

Well you seem to have good line in misinterpretation and misleading statements.

I don't in anyway "feel strongly that this vehicle should not be perceived as another Aero variation" I love the Aero's as you well know. I actually don't really care where it is "grouped", but I do care about too much separation, the 'them and us' bullshit.

I am also happy to follow MMC's direction, in that if they call it a plus eight then that's what it is. My reasoning is that it looks like a trad.

DaveW classes by chassis. That's his personal choice and opinion. Funny how he manages to do it without sniping, and how it comes across as a genuine honest and debateable opinion? I do feel however as concours rep for the MSCC he needs to look past his own opinion and feelings, which he has alluded to.

So please stop trolling and trying to create a chasm. I thought that we had moved on from there?

Oh yes that's absolutely exactly the same as what has happened here. Morgan have taken a Renault Clio V8 and slapped a few trad panels on it and are trying to pass it on as a Plus Eight. Fools, don't they know Katoen will see straight through that doh

What a stupid analogy laugh2

It is not often someone will disturb me and get me out from under my rock in defensive mode. It is not meant in a rude manner Graham.

Please don't add the Skyline into that group unless you have driven a well setup GTR33 or 34 and felt the experience was anodyne. If so then get back in and try a lot harder as you are going too slow. The aids actually don't save you. They extend the envelope and require significant effort in many cases.

I went for a training session with a GTR "expert" after I had bought mine. If you lift off mid bend the rear wheel steering simply hands the car back to you. Crash. If you want to use the rear wheel steering you need to be smooth with the power. It is disturbing to say the least when you MUST accelerate harder into the bend to use the rear wheel steering. I was driving into an open bend and the instructor leant across placed his hand on my right knee and used it to push the accelerator to full power so triggering the mental stage of the engine and rear wheel steering. I held a full power tail slide through the entire bend. Any racer will tell you it is not the fastest way through the bend but the aids did not collect it up for me they held it. At this point the car still feels like a big, wicked rear wheel drive chassis.

On many occasions I used to swing out the back end under power on roundabouts. The side window has a great view as it is pillerless !

On an open day at Donnington my GTR33V on standard rubber out ran a race spec 996 turbo on slicks. I was going around the inside of him on corners.

The gizmos may aid traction and grunt but they don't replace balance, precision and feedback which the GTR 33/34 had in spades.

It is really easy to think that the gizmos make the driver less part of the experience and in several cases I would agree (all you RS6 drivers wink may understand this) but not on this beasty.

Having said that I placed a pre-order for a GTR35 the day they came out. I got an 18 month lead time and so Nissan gave us a free day in a race track. It was not a quick 20 mins either. It felt like a Lexus with a warp drive motor. Bland engine sound, little engagement beyond race track speeds, over controlling nanny engineering. I guess your comments apply to the 35. I am told the V-Spec is alive as a bug was "introduced" but I am not paying that much for it even if I could.

I cancelled it and bought the Aero 8 and have not really looked back since. I still covet a late GTR34V or N spec car with a medium tune. I often wonder about importing another one from the midnightclub http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid_Night_Club

Don't hit them all with the same club.

/rant mode off.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
