Hi,
I changed the spark plugs in my Ford Sigma engined 4/4 Sport today after at least 16,000 miles. I say at least as the car has now covered 31,000 miles and had 15,000 miles on it when I bought it but I've no idea if they have ever been changed before? It's a 2009 model.

The plugs came out with a "RED" tinge on them (see photos), the ceramic is red and parts of the metal electrode is red, does anyone know what that would signify?

I know black could be a rich mixture or burning oil, white could be a weak mixture or running hot and grey is ok.....BUT RED?

Any ideas? Sorry the photos aren't focused very well.
Thank you

Don't know much about the Sigma, but Roadsters with the Ford V6 use Iridium plugs which after 50,000 miles and numerous fuel types looked as good as new

May be worth looking for the Iridium version for a Sigma ?

Cain has the iridium plugs for the Sigma engine , my car is now 7years old with 15K miles , I am thinking it is time to have the timing belt changed does anyone have the part number for the belt as I will get my local garage to do it when it is in for MOT .

Modern unleaded fuel doesn't respect the traditional plug colours regarding state of tune

Baby Sh*t brown for a correctly set mixture doesn't happen anymore... rofl

Yes, it was quite a suprise to me when i took them out.
I'm quite happy now and see no need to change from the NGK's, they work just great.
I only changed the plugs as part of the service I was doing, thought I may as well do it just to be sure.
clap

IIRC, you need a kit - including water pump.

A Caterham based post on Pistonheads quotes: OEM Ford part no: 1780142 for the kit.

In your shoes, I would call someone like Cain or Brands Hatch Morgans to be sure of getting the right parts.

timing belt kit inc water pump
