I remember a moment of inattention some years ago in my Roadster and having to stamp on the brakes - no accident, but I recall the car slid for a very, very long time. A huge distance before stopping.
I am glad you are OK and very sorry to see the condition of your lovely Morgan. It is always horrid to see one damaged.

While advanced driver training, and for that matter motorcycle experience, undoubtedly reduce the risk of mishaps sometimes just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can spoil anyone’s day.
How many times have we all thought there by the grace of God?

As Evo said there is not too much you can do about a lorry bearing down on you round a blind bend on the wrong side of the road with high banks, with all the training in the world you still have to have good luck on your side and occasionally you run out as I'm sure we all have on occasion.
I sincerely hope he finds his way back into a Morgan as he is such an enthusiast.

Thank you, I wanted to drive him warm, to see if everything is OK, for the MOT, tomorrow morning. On a back road, which I drove a hundred times before, in a curve, a lorry, came from the other side. When I saw it, I stepped on the brake, the wheels blocked and I slid into the lorry. Mabe, without braking, everything would have been good. …or worse? Who knows… In any case, the impact happened at a very low speed and, despite the dramatic looking pictures, the cabin remained intact. So did I I even didn’t feel my chest, pushing into the safety belt. One of the worst things you can do when going around a bend is brake if you are going at a decent pace as you lose grip on the rear wheels. Best keep a steady speed when going around a bend. It happened to me in my youth when going around a bend too quick, decided to slow down with the brake and lost the back end, which decided to find itself once the car had repositioned itself in the direction of a tree 😬

As for the effectiveness of brakes in old and perhaps even new Morgans without the benefit of ABS... Stamp on them hard as most of us lesser drivers seem likely to do in an emergency and it seems the wheels are likely to lock...? Been there done that.
I have typed before on here that Colin AKA "Spanner Juggler" and I had a discussion on the benefit of upgrading a Trad to multi piston calipers, my question was that if stamped on in an emergency would they just cause the discs lock up sooner than the original calipers..?
.From a very dull memory Colin being well experienced in driving in competition and much else, determined that there was improved feel and thus overall general better braking performance if caliper and disc upgrades were incorporated..

Only as far as James at Techniques to get a quote for repairs, looks to be a lovely set up with a hugely knowledgeable team.
Monday was not the best of days, got caught in a huge rainstorm in Chigwell, took 4 hours to drive home to Luton & then got rear ended a mile from home.
Although only a minor impact its a bent wing, damaged rear panel, split rear valence & lights, not bad enough to stop me driving it fortunately & doesn't look to be any damaged woodwork.
