Any thoughts about replacing the factory (I guess paper-)airfilter in the air intake box with a K&N airfilter? I am looking at changes in sound and peformance (probably nothing), but also disadvantages because of an oiled cotton filter.

Robert, I have no practical experience nor knowledge of changing the air filter but my belief was always that Ford must have spent a lot of time getting it right so why change it, only my opinion of course.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Changed the OE slab filter on my Roadster to matching K & N one. They have a better flow confirmed by slightly louder intake noise when you blip throttle. They are also washable allowing re-oiling and should last a lifetime. The adaptive mapping should keep mixtures correct and may even improve mpg a tad.

Very likely K & N offer similar for your GDI. You would need to know which Ford model the air cleaner came from or cross-ref from OE filter.

Although sceptics will advise you of MAF sensor fouling I took mine off to clean recently having had the K & N on for nearly 20,000 miles during which time it was cleaned and re-oiled twice. No hint of contamination was found on it smile

The K&N filter on my S1 Roadster put the lambda reading right at the limit for weak running at the MoT.

The standard filter moves it slightly away from that limit, so I'm back with the standard filter.

Different engine setups will respond in different ways, so all you can do is try it.

There is a K&N Part no. for the OEM part no. I‘ve just had a look at it.

I must have a little search where the piece of paper is, than I can give yo the K&N number. Also available in Germany for a reasonable money.

With carburetors I had a very good experience (Classic MINI 1000, TwinCam 88CUI Harley, and a injected Harley ElectraGlide)
Thinking about a change for the MOG.

Found… with the reference of the MANN filter in my Plus4 I found the

K&N E-2993 for about 75,-EURs.

About sound/power…
88CUI Harley DynaGlide… Sound: a little. Power: with a small work at the carb 10% at a dyno.
Classic MINI, 998ccm, enginerebuild, works. Power not noticeable (with the basis 42PS)… Sound: with phantasy.
Injected HARLEY Electra UltraGlide: Sound: not noticeable (with always modified exhaust), power: enough, no noticeable difference.

Greets from Mainz

@Burgundymog, would you spare a picture of that fitting please?
@Rene: I know, I had already included the hyperlink to the K&N filter in my first post here - see blue underscore text "K&N airfilter" wink
