Preparing our newly acquired 1973 +8 RHD for MOT, we are replacing the old rubber brake hoses with new braided ones. Looks like the brake pipes haven't been attended to during all the years and I would like to replace all of them with preferably, copper pipes. So far I haven't been able to find out where to buy them. Our local Morgan pusher claims that such a kit doesn't exist and will have to be made up from case to case. Sounds wierd to me... Anybody here who knows if and where to buy such as a kit? Our +8 is factory fitted a brake booster. Cheers /Finn

If Melvyn Rutter doesn't do pre-made sets, then I honestly doubt that anyone else would. Fortunately however he does sell the braided lines, the pipe, and the fittings. https://mogparts.net/shop/brake-clutch/brake-pipes-hoses

As you can see from this thread - Installing Brake Lines - PaulyG bought a ready made set from Morgan Spares (USA) and only 2 (out of 7) of them fitted his car. I think getting them made up will be the easiest option (altough may be more expensive). Or you could DIY.

Thanks guys for your advise. Arwyn, I will try Automec, used them for an MGA we used to run years ago. If it fails I may have to make them up myself... I do have the bending tool (from the restoratuion of our AH 3000), but would then also get the tool to flare the ends. Another thing is that while we used copper pipes for our AH 3000, I'm about to be convinced that cunifer (blend of copper and nickel) is even better and more corrossion resistant and even easier to work with. As Tim pointed out Melvin seems to have both to be bought by the length. What's your opinion?

Much more satisfying to get the brass fittings and cupro nickel tubing from automec and strangle the the pipework Yourself. Just did my Caterham 7 last year

Hi Jack, this is awesome! GB5081 is exactly what we need it seems and I will get hold of Automec on Monday. Question is now if we should go for copper or cupro nickel. Cupro nickel is more expensive and apparently mandatory for Germany, so question is if that applies for the entire EU (I'm in Denmark). Automec may know. Cheers /Finn

Finn, My experience is that copper pipes swell inside the fitting and then the pipe twists when you unscrew the fittings. I have reused cupro nickel pipes many times.

Automec charges GBP 167 for a complete set of either copper or cupro; the price is the same and the vendor pointed out that many countries prohibits copper. Hence cupro it is! We already have a bending tool and I'm happy that we don't have to buy tools and mess with flaring etc. After all brakes is a delicate matter!
Thanks to all for your inputs and advice.
