I just drove past approximately 15miles worth of queuing artics on the way into Dover. It certainly brings home the volume of trucked goods crossing to Calais as well as the plight of these poor drivers. No disruption to cars driving in however, apart from the minor hassle of low speed limits on clear carriageways.
Who’d be an international truck driver. tumbleweed

You obviously missed the stretch from Maidstone to Ashford - another large lorry park!
I live 8 miles from Dover and couldn’t get to work there on Friday as lorries blocked all roads in the area.
You were lucky - just don’t try the same journey next weekend as it’s bound to be chaos.

I came back via the channel tunnel on Sunday and there were no queues apparent in Calais.

Basically the P.O ferry’s are stuck in Dover because Grant Shapps is giving them the “rubber glove” treatment, this is basically what’s causing the mayhem.

I just returned from Dover and it’s got worse. The queuing extended to Maidenhead this morning with local families now caught up in the mess due to the police suddenly closing off the lanes for non ferry traffic, looked like incompetence to me.
It really is a national disgrace. If Grant Shapps is trying to make P&O suffer through over zealous Coastguard inspections then he’s causing suffering to thousands of people and businesses in the process. I thought “Failing Grayling” was an idiot but hey ho seems he’s in good company. doh

OTOH if P&O want to run their services with poorly-paid and poorly trained personnel who aren't up to speed with proper safety procedures, it's probably wise to check their standards carefully. Nobody wants another Herald of Free Enterprise disaster.

There's not really a winner with this .... Traffic congestion, or if they let ferries sail with inadequate crew training and experience the next headline will be "Tories Drowned My Granny"

I think we'll be seeing more and more choices of temporary disruptions or letting companies take the proverbial .... I think P&O cynically thought the government would run scared of the threat of ferry disruption to avoid the media yowling about "Supply Line Failure" (and throwing in the 'B' word however unjustified) ... and thought wrong.

Wouldn't it be fun if all these vehicles were electric and needed charging?
