All part of the fun of M3W ownership. I used to occasionally get a chirping noise like a strangled parrot at low speeds!

The drive belt sits at the L/H edge of the sprocket (?) attached to the bevel box, up against what looks like a stop or guard. Is that ok and could it cause the chuffing noise on overrun. This all sounds normal. chortle
