The heated screen on my 2008 4/4 (easy up hood) was supplied by Tyneside. I wonder if a change of supplier since then has contributed to this issue.

Don't know who told you that, but I shouldn't listen to any more of there advise as they have no idea what there talking about, there is nothing in the MOT about windscreen demisting.

Thanks for that I read it on here believe it or not and if I find the thread I'll let them know. Because to have a new laminated screen fitted to the frame for £140 seems reasonable to me. I never bothered much with the heater on the Plus 8 or this one and with the roof off the heated screen is another detail like a radio to me a little superflous.

In my ownership of the +8 I never had a problem when the roof was needed with cracked screens, I just think there is either a manufacturing defect in the screens (most likely) or alignment and or fixture of windscreen to the body. We do have +4's on here with cracked screens also.
No one seems to have the real answer but some people and Dealerships are doing "quite nicely thank you" out of the problem. hide

Thank you for your views on the windscreen stress fractures, having thought long and hard I have concluded that with the greatest of respect we are all missing the point.

Why are we all sticking a plaster on what could be a running sore, as I wrote above I believe this to be a screen manufacturing issue or the mounting or alignment of same.

I shall visit my (worthy) dealer this week and see what the Factory line is, which is all they can do which I understand. If however it is suggested that I engage the Windscreen Insurance route for the second time in 2.5 Months I am seriously considering getting an Independent Engineers Report on the issue.

At £972-07 a pop this could be a sound investment for the future of my car and pocket.

I agree with you 4/4sportsfun.

However, your contract is with the dealer (assuming you bought from a dealer). He has obligations under the sale of goods act. The law says the item must be:
- of satisfactory quality
– last for the time you would expect it to and be free of any defects
- fit for purpose – fit for the use described and any specific use you made clear to the trader
- as described – match the description on packaging or what the trader told you

If an item doesn’t meet any of these rights, it is faulty and you will usually have the right to a:
- repair
- replacement
- refund

The dealer may well ask for backup, help, assistance, advice (money) from the manufacturer. And that's fine. But it has no bearing on his responsibilities under the act or his implied contract with you.

Good luck.

Thanks Mark for your depth of detail on areas of responsibility.

My daughter is a Solicitor and I sincerely hope we don't have to travel down that road, even though it could be a little return on the Parental Investment I suppose.

I'll keep you posted as and when

Tomorrow we shall find out the future of the windscreen saga I rather hoped it could have been today but apparently a trip to Stormont has been planned. speakno

If your'e lucky when approaching the Belfast Harbour Airport you get a nice view of the building which I think is immpresive.

Today the screen on my 4/4 2-seater (year 2000) cracked top to bottom on the passenger side, on a diagonal from the top corner: A heated screen, but an old style hood with tensioners on a 10 stud frame. My Moggie was just sitting there alone, behaving itself and not annoying anybody. I was amazed to find this thread of similar experiences, but mostly on newer Morgans. Is there a technique in replacement that minimises the risk of recurrence? Thanks.

I can't answer your question CheshireMog but state the facts around my July (Centenary) 4/4 Sport and allow you to draw your own conclusions is maybe the best option. The first screen went as yours from the same starting point top lhd corner moving across and downwards - and all of this happening at a stand still in the cul-de-sac where I live. It may or not be a significant feature of the crack but both of my failures have been on the wiper side laminate and not the cockpit, this should be telling those that know about stress something i.e. MMC
I was advised by my good local agent to claim on Insurance which I duly did losing £75- Excess for what I consider to be an MMC manufacturing defect ( not fit for pupose etc).

Incidentally it took from May-August until delivery of the sreen to the agent, fitted 1st September.
Agent 10, MMC 0.

The second failure occured after a spirited return trip from home Monday last (South Hams Devon) to Blandford Forum in Dorset, during the last leg of this 250 mile journey my peripheral vision was drawn to guess what top lhd corner. this screen has been on the car for 500mls or so (fit for purpose)driving is maybe the "reason detre" as I understand Morgans, as you will be gathering I'm a "driver and user" not a "polisher and residual man" there is rather wonderfully space for us all on this site.

Yesterday I called in at Berrybrook to see the always friendly crew and Mark rushed out with an ear to ear grin and the keys to the Olive Green full leaded bullet holes and all Three Wheeler, just -loody stunning matched only by his brand enthusiasm. When he fired her up I expected the neighbours to come running round as the site is fairly residential, that sound is fantastic it really is in your face banging, although I did just wonder how many miles it would take on a given day to become invasive.

Mark handed me over to Martyn the workshop manager who inspected the screen and photographed it, the front plate and Chassis plate. We had all agreed that what would stop it happening again and at £972-07 a pop it could not go on happening.

It was left that Martyn would have a word with MMC Warranty Manager as soon as and get back to me, and he always does.

I have no association other than as a customer with Berrybrook, they always treat you respectfully (without the oily bit) and listen carefully to your version of the cars symptoms and I would recommend them to anyone.

Will update post as news comes along.

Thanks Moorganer ...I really appreciate you sharing your experience of this problem. I am planning to follow your example and I have arranged to pop over to a respected Morgan engineering garage this coming Friday for a full inspection. I'll post my progress. Seems that we all need a coordinated dialogue with MMC to understand what is happening and resolve the problem for the benefit of all. Agreggating our buying power to achieve a speedier and lower priced solution might also be a good idea!

Well said CheshireMog waiting

As soon as I have any news I will post on this thread - It has dawned on me this last week what an important site TM is as I have received via the thread and other conduits so much help and encouragement. When I was feeling totally frustrated and more than a little agitated the Cavalry arrives, thanks everyone and rest assured I will share the rest of the "Windscreen" journey for the good of all.
