We are about to change the lubricants in our 4 speed Rover gearbox and the LSD differential. While I've been browsing around, it's not totally clear what to chose. The Morgan Handbook says 75W/80 gear oil for the 4 speed box, but doesn't mention GL4 or 5..? And for the rear LSD diff, it says Hypoid SAE 90 LS. Hence, are there consensus about what to use and are there any prefenential brands to go for? Cheers /Finn

I used Redline full synthetic 75W/90 LSD oil in my BTR axle. Click image for source.

It cured the clicking I got when manoevering on full lock, suggesting the friction modifier works better than that in the factory supplied oil (assuming it included any). Note that I found my axle required more than the handbook suggested (1.6 litres) so had to order a second bottle.

Don't use GL5 in the gearbox. Synchro rings don't like the EP additives.

Finn, I don't know about the 4 speed box but I use this in my Plus 8 LSD.
