I'm happy and relieved for you Mark, as the long-time owner of a '69 X Flow I was particularly concerned
as to the root cause of the vexing problem. Not knowing the exact causation is very infuriating, I suggest
you attempt a different start/warm-up technique in future, not letting the engine run at idle for an excessively long
warm up period. Not aware of your ambient temperature at the time the problem manifested itself, but 10 minutes
would not be necessary or advisable. Best to warm up it up by driving off after only a few
minutes, (2-3 at most) with light throttle inputs warming gradually under light load and moderate revs.
I reside in a region that experiences brutal winter conditions and B1800 is never exposed to them because
it remains safely and warmly ensconced in her heated garage/shop abode throughout the winter.
My daily drivers are required to operate in Arctically cold temps. cold Without oil or coolant heaters
there are days here when you can't realistically expect reliable startups from your vehicle, but even under these
conditions the wisdom is to engage in only minimally lengthy periods of static idle. Allowing the vehicle to warm-
up while driving under light load is best, contributes to cleaner engine internals and reduced wear and tear in the long term.
Please keep us posted of further developments and/or further conclusive findings regarding the problem.
Cheers cheers

Possibly of no relevance to your fault but my cousin had a mini that used to behave in a similar manner. It would run fine then cut out and refuse to start. After many garage visits with no faults found my dad and uncle were looking under the bonnet with the engine running. The dipstick rotated with the engine vibration and touched the distributor cap causing a short IIRC. Problem solved.

Doesn't explain the lack of easystart action, but I wonder if you have some form of fuel blockage that eventually worked itself free with all the cranking?

My tank had been lined at some point, and the ethanol had started to strip it off the sides of the tank like tissue paper. Was often blocking the jets, and clogging the washable filter I put in. Last straw was when it blocked the fuel pick up in the tank - only solved by me reverse blowing the fuel line (remove the petrol cap or it'll squirt strait back at you!).. After that I fitted a new stainless tank from SiFab....

thumbs Great to read that it fired up. +1 for checking all the relevant earths. As for possible HT leakage running the engine in a dark situation with ventilation, can show up errant sparks..

Good news about now running.
Years ago I had a starting problem on a Ford cvh car. It was the leads. They were originals and appeared ok with spark. I checked everything and tried new leads. Ran perfectly. My guess was deteriorated leads ( age) and a weak spark. The new leads was the last in the sequence so appeared to have been the culprit.
My firstMog was a ‘93 4/4 with a cvh efi engine. Developed a misfire. Cause was a faulty pump, (possibly muck got in) I replaced it and at the same time flushed the tank ( some crud came out indicating pump blickage so fitted an extra filter before the pump, new flexi pipes, blew solid pipes clean, new main filter. My reasoning was that the fuel system simply aged and the refurb cured it.
At some point many systems on a Morgan might benefit from overhaul due to age issues, low mileage lack of use etc..

It’s as if nothing went wrong, to the best of my knowlageI did nothing different to what I have done over the past five days!
Thanks for everyone’s help, it has left me doubting the cars reliability, certainly not a fix at the side of the road.

If I knew why it failed to start I could accept the situation, this has been the weirdest situation I have experienced, at least it is running now. Again thanks for everyone’s help.

Perhaps initially the engine flooded (wet plugs) which would prevent firing, after a time they dried and started. If it happens again foot flat on accelerator and spin starter till it clears.

The mention of an immobilisers makes me wonder if the impact cut out was at fault and has reset itself (not an expert opinion)

Neither an immobiliser or an impact cut out on a 70's Mog smile
