Way too many Porsches and BMWs. They just become background noise. Except for the 2002's. I have a soft spot for them from back in my rallye days.

Way too many Porsches and BMWs. They just become background noise. Except for the 2002's. I have a soft spot for them from back in my rallye days. My son and I have always been a bit sniffy about BMWs. There are so many of them and Porsches in our small town. However … He recently bought a BMW M2 Competition manual gearbox; it’s amazing! After driving it myself I went out and bought a 2 series too. We both agree that we now feel rather foolish regarding our previous prejudice against the brand. The reason there are so many about has a lot to do with how good they are.

I spent the weekend in the Caringorms with 20 BMW i8s... and the organiser led us on our merry jaunts in an M2 Competition. It's seriously quick... but he said it's very (very) harshly set up. I guess the clue is in the name. So the front end would feel normal to trad owners.  Will

at the rear, yes... but they've then chosen a stiff setup for M2 Competitions, I guess valuing handling over ride.
Which maybe works fine on smooth roads in eg Germany, but was causing pained looks over our fine highland roads!
The Maserati 430 I had in the '90s was rose-jointed all round, and didn't rattle anyone's teeth ;-)

368 mile round trip to get cruise control fitted. Lots of A14, M1 etc but still fun
