Has anybody any experience of fitting the Heart of England stainless steel threshold plates? They need to be bent to shape to follow the door frame profile and I wonder what the best way might be to do that without making a complete dogs breakfast at the first attempt.

Any (relevant) advice much appreciated.

I would fix them at one end and gradually work to the other end.
I would bend them with the pressure of my hand as you go forward, thayt way you wont mark the finish. I would probably put masking tape on the visable side before starting as well.
I think if you try to bend them off the car, you will end up with visable bends where you don't want them.

I would go with what Ivan says above.
Didn't fit the ones on my car and one has a slight crease mark in it...

At the factory week before last i saw someone fitting them. I only saw a minute of it. The only bit i can add here is that a small dia drill was used to pre-drill the plates/frame before tacks were hammered in. This would obviously prevent any deformation to the plate.I did not see the whole process but he seemed to be working from one end with some tacks already in place.

WHEN YOU REMOVE THE OLD ONES FILL THE ORIGINAL HOLES IN WITH WOOD STOPPER AND DONT OVER FILL THEN SAND THE SURFACE AFTER YOU HAVE SCRAPPED THE EXCESS AWAY .

If you have to drill holes in them and then tack them, I would think about using a good 3M double sided body tape and maybe a few blobs of stickaflex (the stuff for bonding in windscreens)
and use no nails at all. I think it would look much better.

If you stick something with stickaflex I won't fall off !!

Mine are screwed down.

Mine are pinned on the +4SS, but theu would look so much better if they were just bonded on.

If they are like the ones that I fitted last spring, they come pre drilled and with the shiny side protected with white film.
The job was not anything like as bad as I had feared, in fact I put it off for some time before I plucked up the courage to begin.
Actually was very straight forward to do. I began at the door hinge end, used my hands to shape them and fitted the tacks (not right in in case any needed to come out!) as I moved along. Main thing I had to watch out for was moving off line. When I got to the door catch I think that I had to use a mallet and wooden drift to get the profile to go into the corners (and I think that there are pins right in the corners which were fiddly to fit).
Overall it was much easier than I expected, and I didn't end up with unwanted creases.

Thanks everybody for the input. They are indeed pre drilled and protected. My worry was that they would be too stiff to simply press into the shape. From what you say Malcolm that should not be the case. Thats the job for today, so if it all goes to rats expect a stream of expletives from aberdeen.
