Repairing aeros gets hyper expensive very quickly once the tub is part of the equation...

From what I've seen of the earlier Aeros the wings are all cut and fitted individually so unless you can find someone to do this work in Belgium it will be a return to the UK for the car.

Before they embark on the costly route to repair this S1, make sure they get it on a ramp to ensure the chassis isn't damaged. If it is, I'd suggest a repair is going to be too costly.
Quite a few Aeros are written off because of minor body damage; without wanting to be the prophet of doom, it doesn't take a lot to make them uneconomical to repair. Aluminium and cost effective repairs, don't go hand in hand.
Other than the factory, UK breakers may have an Aero you can salvage. The problem will be finding the parts you require from an already damaged car. Most write-offs seem to be from a result of front wing and some rear damage; therefore, the parts your friend needs won't be the easiest to find. Wish I could give you some better news. And on the S1 the rear boot structure behind the tank is a wooden frame. This only changed to Ali on the later models with the wider tub.

A sobering tale for any prospective 'aluminium tub' Trad fans You can look at it both ways I guess. I would see this as the safety benefit of a modern rigid safety cell!

Of course the safety of occupants is paramount but the market for a £50k car written off after a minor prang is limited. Would be interesting to hear from someone with knowledge of Lotus Elise

Would be interesting to hear from someone with knowledge of Lotus Elise You won't write an Aero off after a prang; however, if you had an accident in a 911 and took out the front lower assembly, front wing, damaged one side, damaged a wheel and took out both wings (as per the accident in the initial thread), there would be a very good chance the repairs would not be financially viable. Insurance companies work on the theory of better to write off than take a risk that the repair will be an open cheque book. From the description, it sounds like the car has spun and if that is the case, I'd not call that a prang  The issue with a car that has spun is the hidden damage - inertia meeting inanimate object often means chassis and suspension damage. Couple this with the body repairs and I'd suggest repairing it would be a labour of love, not something you'd do because it was economical. I believe you'd find the insurance company would take exactly the same approach with your Roadster or any other modern Classic. Sad but the bean counters rule the formula of whether to repair or not.

Sadly the bean counters seem to have been ruling everything for a long time, often not for the best as far as products go...  Saving a penny or two only to have to pay out a lot more to rectify a problem caused by the initial penny pinching is not good business...

I agree Graham. We often see companies releasing products that they know are defective. Clearly they hope that they will survive the warranty period before needing repairs. In the end it often finishes up costing the manufacturer far more than fitting a quality part in the first place, and in the process may ruin a reputation that has taken many years to build.
A good reputation takes years to build and may be lost in a flash.
