Robert if you are looking for a sound change then try a cylindrical K&N directly on top of the TB. It works on the Duratec. My motivation for change was mainly to remove the unsightly plastic Ford air box that was crudely mounted on top of the engine. It bashed the bonnet and sucked hot air from over the exhaust manifold but I don’t think the GDI suffered one of those. ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/23a6b5oifanh61u/k%26n123.jpg)

Well, i went for the above mentioned K&N 2993, and it already makes a noticeable change! The sound is much nicer, a deeper growl instead of the usual "4-cylinder-screaming". Now the piggybank gets filled up for the Aero Racing manifold and catalyst! @Rog: if I attach a cylindrical filter directly on top of the TB I will "skip" the mass air flow sensor, and I don't think the ECU will like that... Well, maybe the MAF just needs to be moved

Hi Robert,
E&OE……The GDi being a Duratec variant…..you will probably find the t-map sensor (previously maf) located on the inlet manifold. Of the four plastic pipes comprising the inlet manifold follow the right hand one down and it is towards the bottom. So, no ecu problems. Hope this helps.

Rog, that looks great - and the filter being on the cold side clearly makes sense! I will not pass „MOT“ (Hauptuntersuchung) with it because it is not allowed on public streets… but I think I‘ll examine space and wire length for that engine bay pimpin‘!

My car has a T-MAP senor rather than a MAF. It’s located down in the manifold so not effected by any filter vibration. I was more bothered by temperature inaccuracies….

The Plus 4 GDI setup (from outside towards engine) is this: - intake hose - intake airbox with airfilter - MAF sensor - silicone hose - throttle body - intake manifold Thus my question; right now the MAF sensor is directly attached to the airbox, a "redesign" with MAF sensor and airfilter directly on top of the throttle body would certainly increase vibration...

Difficult to answer. Maybe the shock and vibe characteristics might change a little but the sensors should be generally rated for that environment. If you are feeling adventurous, give it a go….

Alright, I feel adventurous: ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/05/01/D73AFF53-83B5-4DF7-9FE7-EC30F27BF3E4.jpg) Short silicone hose on top of throttle body, then MAF sensor, then air filter (smaller K&N on the way) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/05/01/BCF2B43B-961D-4D51-A96B-C2E625D6AAD9.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/05/01/E18D1E30-EF22-4451-80A0-5AA274D86C21.jpg) So much space now on this side of the engine! ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/05/01/B1B05260-77CA-42EC-AEBB-0FEF50686BDC.jpg) Some weight reduction with all this stuff gone

Nice work Robert That looks a little different now. Does it work ok with GDI engine?
