Ah, thanks....

You do have to pay for quality - t'was ever thus.

EV's are relatively new and will be more expensive than established petrol equivalents. But, the gap is shortening and, if you are one of the 2 million new car buyers every year, then they may be on the shortlist. I guess anyone buying a new car might be regarded as 'rich' by some.

My EV experience is similar, charging at home at 7.5p/kwh, thanks to Octopus and achieving 4 miles per kwh, so 1.86p/mile...

The Tesla Model 3 isn't the best EV, but I think it is the best combination of efficiency, performance and range and it isn't quite devoid of character.
I've had it almost a year and have driven it 7900 painless and event free miles.

It cost £49,750, so by no means cheap but looking on Autotrader today a Blue 2021 M3 Long Range Tesla with 10000 miles would cost close to £52,000, more than I paid for it, so no depreciation to go with no road tax and no servicing...

The cost of running the Plus 8 more than compensates.... stirpot

I bet a lot of those new cars are rented/leased on some sort of PCP rather than purchased outright. Actually owning your new car seems to becoming an exception these days.

You are right, but I'm an exception, sort of. I put down 25% and took a Tesla credit plan over 4 years so at the end I own the car, 100%.

Mrs has got a spanky new Golf Hybrid on order at the moment (due April 2023) but it is a company car, and leased.

Nothing wrong with being rich. I certainly consider myself 'comfortable' compared to a great proportion of the UK. Even though I'm within the Basic Tax rate, I still earn more than 90% of the population.

Yes, there's a massive skew of wealth in the UK. 6th in terms of total GDP, but something like 26th in terms of GDP/head. There are an awful lot of people out there working for very low wages, and yet there are apparently a million or more vacancies. Seems to me that demand is greater than supply in the labour market currently, but employers don't seem prepared to increase wages to attract staff.

:

I carried out an interesting exercise yesterday on Heathers GTI which we bought online from a VW dealer in Lancaster a couple of years ago in lockdown and had it delivered on a flatbed to our door for £12,500, it's an all singing dancing one with panoramic sliding roof, aircon and manual gearbox which releases maximum torque unlike the paddlebox which she dislikes anyway.

A search on Autotrader now sees that car worth £14,000 so it's a crazy old time in the car market right now - she wouldn't part with it for anything it's a fantastic little rocket and a hoot to drive..

Just to keep it on thread the battery is in the boot grin2

I did the same and was surprised by the price of the good ladies Mini and my Turbo Sofa. However - the good news, you have made £2500.
The bad news is that the next one has gone up by £10,000 and has a 12 month waiting list. Bottoms. spend

According to the FLA, as of Feb 2022, 91% of new car sales were financed or leased by one of their members.
