Well I know it is leaking at 2 spokes, the guys are extremely experienced as they do wire wheels on lots of cars over the years. The black seal on the wheel in question was in pretty poor condition and very patchy compared with the spares sealant they put the tyre on this afternoon. They have a special sealant which they are leaving overnight to cure and see if it does the job, I know it worked immediately and sealed one spoke. If worst comes to it I'll get the MWS sealant and they will sort it out for me .
Thanks for all the input.

Robbie, the problem is the iniside of tubless tyres are not ddesigned for tubes. As I understand it they can cause punctures. My spare leaked and after the proces you described I added gloop. It is now fine.

John, Where did you get it done? I am local to you and it would be useful to know who locally is familiar with wires. Harry

Thanks, wouldn’t have thought about one of the bigger firms for wires but I guess it all comes down to the individual fitter and his interest and enthusiasm. I had been thinking of asking Lifes who they recommended.

FWIW Dowsill 1080 is the sealant MWS recommend, and needs to cure for at least 24 hours from memory. Also as John V6 mentions, running tubeless tyres with a tube is a not advised as the inner surface of tyre is rough enough to abrade tube. Possible seating issues as well as no direct pressure onto bead.

I am not disagreeing with any comments made but just for the record……..
I have had my 2006 built car from new and been a bit bemused with my wires and tyres since my first tyre change. My local tyre man, with Morgan experience, was sure the rim profiles were for tubeless and were c/w sealant, not a rim band. But, there was a large yellow label near the spoke well clearly stating inner tubes must be used. I believe MWS stainless went tubeless from 2008 yet my original tyres were Continental tubeless!

I had been thinking of asking Lifes who they recommended. Matt at Lifes does know a local Southport tyre fitter, just cant remember their name who are well experienced with Morgans. I wouldn't ordinarily go to a main tyre place but in this instance although the tyre fitters may come and go the site manager has been there for years who had the experience with wires. If the manager moves on unless the tyre fitter who dealt with my tyres was there I wouldn't use them.

My car was registered in Feb 2008, the tubeless tyres originally on the car were from last quarter 2007 and my wires also have the yellow sticker. I'm picking up the spare today so I'll see what the yellow sticker says. I could just be on the crux of the change. But it would be interesting if inner tubes are recommended as clearly the black silicone band was pretty poor on the wheel I inspected. Update The yellow sticker just gives cleaning instructions of the wire wheel no mention of inner tube or tubeless< And it appears they have sealed the leak with their black latex/rubber type sealant.

It seems the sealant damage issue is more down to a fitters care rather than reliance on one with Morgan experience. My local tyre shop managed to remove and replace tyres on mine after my spoke tightening issue I did explain they were sealed and to take extra care when first removing tyres for investigation but local company didn't have any sealant so it was down to me to find the correct stuff and effect repair. They were equally careful on re-fitting, double checking for leaks afterwards and I've had no trouble since
