When greasing and cleaning this afternoon, I noticed this plate hanging out the off side brake calliper. I believe it’s called a anti squeal plate. I don’t feel confident enough in removing any pins to the callipers to investigate incase I can’t get it back together. So for now I pushed it back in place with a screwdriver. Does anyone know the part number for this, or is this all part of the pads as a kit ? My Morgan is a 2016 4/4 Sport Any advice is greatly appreciated ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/05/15/B2B63ED6-BB3C-4898-A6A3-2A457F0A7906.jpg) Pushed back in place ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/05/15/E2B74CB8-0FB4-49FE-AFCC-E4F9D61F0E8F.jpg)

I wouldn't drive the car until you have removed the pins, pads and the trapped anti-squeal spring plate. The latter holds the pins and therefore the pads in place. Can only suggest it was mis-seated when pads were last changed. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/ICdlOnZ.png) If damaged the part you will need to replace is (5) in above diagram, one for each pad pin, and part number MBS1890. I would check pads and pins as well.

The two retaining pins are held in place by the spring clips visible under each pin. Depress the spring clip and the pin slides out of the caliper. No force is necessary. But if you're not experienced with brakes, seek assistance!

As Dave suggests you just need to depress the spring securing plate and pins slide out. I use a broad flat blade screwdriver.

On later models there isn't such though TBM - check out parts diagram above. I think the spring clips bearing on pins and top of pads serve that purpose.

They're often bonded/fixed onto the back of the pad rather than a seperate item in the old day. I had a set of new pads from my Mrs Hyundai in the shed, and they have shims fitted. My understanding was the spring clips were to stop pad rattle and to prevent the pins working loose. From the photos, it looks too large and flat for a spring, and also don't think it possible for a spring to fit between the piston and pad whilst in situ.

Hi Craig,
When I had my Sport about three years into ownership and 15,000 mls the car pulled to the right under braking so I checked the front brakes and the nearside outer pad had delaminated from it's heavy steel backing plate. New pads ordered up and fitted and the thin metal shim you are referring to which I understand to be an anti squealing device did not come with the pads, I just put a smear of copper grease on them and they held in place no problems.
I am at a loss to suggest any reason (other than below) why yours has become dislodged but it could well be that it stays where it is now, just keep a regular check on it until you visit Henry's again.
You can see in your top image the impression left by the upper piston on the plate suggesting this is a recent happening and other than the top piston now exerting less pressure on the plate than the lower one I can't see why it would become loose, I am assuming braking is as per normal ? as if the piston is sluggish I would expect the imbalance to give the car a tendency to veer to the right slightly under heavyish braking.
