My Morgan has the replaceable louvred flat back panel to go over the spare wheel port. I've never put it on because I'm unsure how to remove the rear fasteners and secure it in place. The screws look as if they need some kind of special tool to remove them. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

The panel appears to be held on with countersunk M5 screws as below David. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/gsl0RJv.png) I know a John V6 has experimented fitting one so maybe he will be along to explain fully.

Thanks Richard. That’s very helpful. I suspect I will need a special tool, though? I also wonder if Morgan’s flat back panel will cause any chaffing to the paint finish when it’s removed and the spare put back. I don’t expect I will want to keep the flat back on permanently but it’s nice to sometimes ring the changes.

Have a look at thread here David which has photo's of panel fixing showing what must be captive nuts the countersunk M5 screws with matching washers screw into. Note also chaffing comments!

Thanks Richard. I read the thread and it seems chaffing is a real risk even with the Morgan flat back. Don’t think I want to risk that so perhaps I’ll leave well alone. I suppose I could always mount the panel on my study wall as a nice piece of automotive art 🤔. I have to do something with it. After all I paid for it!

I have considered longer bolts with spacers to raise the panel further. For now it sits in the garage as even after a few weeks the chaffing marks were clear.

Seems like chaffing is inevitable then, John?
Graham's suggestion of PPF is an interesting option. But then it needs to be professionally cut and applied. And the film will probably mark as well, which means I will want to remove it when the spare goes back on. Probably not worth the cost unless the flat back is going to stay on for a long time.

My spare wheel cover panel has torx (star head) screws holding it in place for which you need a special driver bit to fit/remove.
