Hi all. I'm not quite sure if this is the right forum and it may have been mentioned before, but I am reliably informed that ESSO E5 (old Super) petrol has NO ethanol in it so I even use it in the lawn mower ! However you need to check where you live as I understand it is added to their fuel in Cornwall ? What have the Cornish done to upset ESSO ???
Cheers, John.

Several threads on this E5/E10.
Not just Devon/Cornwall, but also some areas in the north of the UK. smile

With Esso you have to look for the Synergy Supreme+ designation

Last time I checked (April 2021) it was declared as ethanol free, except in Devon, Cornwall, Teeside, Scotland and NE England

Remember also that as E0 (zero) labelling doesn't exist, even ethanol free has to be shown as E5, ie up to 5%

Nectar are constantly doing multiple upgrades on points at Esso if you get the Ap.. On top of which you can trade 300 points to get money off per litre. If you do that for over 30 litres it is worth more than the cash value of the points.

As a slight digression, I’ve been helping two friends with very different vehicles breath life back into their engines after standing for some time. Yamaha motorbike and Standard big 9. Both visits started with ‘how old is the petrol?’ Both answers - fresh from the can, how old is the stuff in the can, couple of months at the most…

Both systems drained and filled with pump fresh fuel from my can (lawnmower e5 super from local texaco garage) less than 1 month old

Both started and ran pretty well straight away.

Got me thinking about fuel stabilisers, does anyone have any experience of them? Or are they just another version of snake oil.

I had a pretty similar experience when I took my 4/4 for this year's MOT. There was about ¼ of a tank of fuel in it that had been there for a couple of months. The engine died on the lift and needed some fresh fuel to get it to restart.

I use fuel stabiliser (Briggs and Stratton Fuel Fit) in the can I use for the 4-stroke garden kit, and I only use E5 these days, but to date I've not used it in the car. I think that'll change this winter.

In the USA Mid West where temperatures can get very low in winter the use of a "winter additive" is commonplace in engines that are not used for long periods . My late brother used it in everything form his Corvette down to lawnmowers, and snow blowers. He swore by them, but no doubt others will have differing opinions.

I wouldn't have thought your car stands still long enough to need it drive
