Afternoon all

I noticed my rear fog lamp isn't working a while back and have tried several investigations but no luck yet. It is a 1996 +4 4 seater.

The bulb is good..
The fuse is good.
There is no power getting to the bulb holder.
The light comes on on the dash switch.
I cant find a relay under the dash.

Not sure how to proceed.

MOT due next week.

Any enlightened suggestions?

David,
Assuming that your car is wired like ours I would check the bullet connector under the back of the car about 6" behind the fog light ( and probably covered in mud!).

I will look for that. I like the simple answers, so fingers crossed...

Hi I had the same before a mot,1999 4 seater it turned out to be the switch as never used much just kept trying it then it's made connection and ok ever since.did spray switch with electrical contact spray after mot.Good luck.

Follow the wire back. To be sure check the earth. Try another bulb holder or wires directly on a working bulb.

Have you got the lights turned on ?

Some fogs are wired so that the relay is only triggered if headlamps are on

I had similar a few years back on my 2002 Plus8.
Bulb, fuse, wiring, switch all ok.
It was the module behind the dash. A small black box containing a pcb to control when the rear fogs would work, preventing leaving them on.
Linked to the headlights, so only on when using dip/ main beam. The pcb cancelled the fogs when headlights switched off, in essence a reset to off until reselected by the rear fog switch.
I opened mine up and the pcb was loose inside so re glued it with hot melt. Worked for a while but returned. Tried getting a replacement via dealer/factory but none available for my year/model. GRRRR. Tried Melvyn Rutter, sent photos as no part number on the unit. Factory order. After many weeks I contacted the factory...plenty of 1997 or earlier in stock but not suitable for my year (?).
I was about to buy a unit from Carbuildersolutions and sort out wiring it in but examined the circuits. Spotted a couple of iffy solder joints so re-soldered them Bingo! Been ok since.

There doesn't appear to be a relay controlling rear fog light as its operated directly by permanent fused power through the rear fog light switch on model/year of your car David. If the warning light, which may be integral to switch, is fully illuminated with switch on then there should also be power going to the rear fog light via a red/yellow cable.

As suggested there may be a bad connection on this cable, most likely at the rear connector. Should be easy to trace.

I recently had the same problem on my '09 Roadster. I found that the (lamp) end of one of the two wires had simply corroded and fallen out -- the fog lamp had been wired into the loom with butt connectors (you won't believe what that turned-up when I googled them to get replacements....).

I cut-out the old connectors, and a multi-meter showed that the live feed worked fine, and the earth to the lamp showed continuity. The bulb itself was working fine. I ensured no more crud would get in, by using a 6" length of heat-shrink tubing (remember to slip that on BEFORE making the connections !). An easy fix (use a proper crimping tool to ensure good joints); crawling around under the car was the most difficult part.

The wiring near the lamp turned out to be the problem. Almost certainly disturbed by me when cleaning the car

The bullet connecter was ok and had power to it, so it was the crimped connector not far from the lamp. Once reconnected, I happened to have some heat shrink to seal and Bob's your uncle! I should be safe to make an appointment for MOT next week.
