Just got what I consider a fair quote from Gott and Wynne (£201, comprehensive, self and Mrs Image driving, £20k agreed, unlimited mileage, no need for hood when leaving the car, 90 days EU foreign cover etc) ... my problem is they need a valuation form completing by a Morgan dealer/assessor/engineer ... as I live in the middle of nowhere as far as such things go, how did others meet this requirement?

Is it worth asking one of the dealers to do this for you based on photographs? You have a lot of pictures of the rebuild to help. Not sure what they would charge though.

I believe there has been a small charge for this unless you are a long term customer of a dealer. If you have one you use regularly and they have serviced the car then ask them if they would be kind enough to do it based on a telephone session. (Facetime/Skype/Whatscrap/other options exist) is a wonderful thing.

I would ask the insurance company if they have a specific list before you go ahead as many of the dealers with long standing experience may have exited the approved dealer plan in the last few years and so may not qualify. They are no less skilled however they are no longer "authourised dealers" of the factory. Worth a check.

Just had my value updated for G&W by my preferred dealer, photo to prove mileage and all done remotely by email, G&W were very accommodating and accepted previous value whilst this was sorted

It says 'Dealer/assessor/engineer' on the form .... my problem can't be unique .... just out of a protracted rebuild (and not seen a dealer in decades before that I'd guess as it's a simple oldie and the previous owner had a garage business) ......can't be driven to a dealer without insurance ... and needs an assessment for the insurance ... classic catch 22. (Even if there was a dealer within 150 miles)

Hopefully I can arrange this to be done remotely ... I have some suggestions kindly PM'd to me I can try.

Are we talking agreed value insurance which might be seeking 3rd party evaluation of your Mog`s market value..? That being the case other than trailering it, I suspect any broker worth his salt should be able to offer a simple solution knowing you intend taking it to have it valued...?

Other than that I might expect "ordinary" fully comprehensive classic car insurance could be issued without problem to then allow you to book it in for a local MOT..?

Addendum Provided you booked it in at the MOT station before setting off..

Luddite ... yes, it's purely for the agreed valuation .... MOT isn't an issue due to the car's age (or tax for that matter) .. though I will probably get the lads at my local garage run one as a confidence check ... a second pair of eyes is a valuable thing.

My current plan is to contact a few dealers and see if they can do a valuation remotely from my build blog pics ... failing that I'll go back to G&W to see what they suggest.

Word of warning for those seeking the cheap options, I thought this a really evil one.

I'm sure we are all versed with the correct protocols but you may have youngsters who are a tad less cynical.
