You could always use one of the Tesla fake exhaust speakers on the Plus Four to get a V8 rumble. The turbo will fill the torque you love from the V8 I guess and the more modern auto is good.

Go directly to 5.40 to avoid the annoying stuff.

The reason I have not changed the ML63 petrol converter is that any change will involve sending a lot of money more so any savings are really mute.
Even at £2/L I do not do enough mileage to justify it anymore.

Exactly why the Tesla will go and the two cars we own will stay.
IF we swap the Plus 8 for a Plus (Smaller number) it will use the equity from the Plus 8 and the Tesla: at the moment I don't want to use pension capital on things that aren't really necessary.

I took the AMG C43 out for a spin today, the first time I've driven it on its new Pilot Sport 5s.

I ran it in "Sports Plus" mode, so max power, aggressive gearbox map, stiff suspension, etc.
The exhaust behaves like a caged lion, lots of noise and mega pops on the down shift. All very silly, but a delight.
The new tyres give more feedback through the steering wheel, cornering grip is stronger than me and with AWD it drives as if it is on rails.
No lane departure nagging, no speed limit nagging, and the cruise control simply works.
In comparison the Tesla is bland, yet often annoying as the nanny wants to join in.

I now want to Plus 8 Back....

AMG remain the dark and naughty side of big confident conservative MB. The fun thing is that if you go for a performance pack/S model/upgrade you normally also get an enhanced exhaust system which makes it even louder as well.
It is going to be interesting to see how they fair in the electric world? The recently release EQ-E has normal MB and AMG options but it feels like they have chosen to dial back the MB models to let the AMG EQE53 exist in some space.
Without the daft engine I think a lot of the historic AMG owners will have trouble connecting with it. I think they would have been better flipping them to Maybach branding.

I was quite sad that the old AMG boss (Tobias) did not work out at Aston as I can see his evil side working well to put a naughty edge on their image.

I would like to have the performance settings without the snap crackle and pop on mine.

Peter, I was interested to read that in sport mode your Merc`s gearbox seems programmed to use engine over run on throttle off down shifts, causing a fruity note exhaust note, which is very much a part of my sports car ideals and the old +8 supplies that in spades... love

My 991 however does not.. I do have push button operated baffles to provide a tad louder exhaust note and Porsche kindly provide a sound symposer to pipe induction roar into the cabin too.. However it would seem even in sport mode if dropping a gear, the programming causes the car to accelerate, no doubt expecting that throttle up will be the next command.. Which does not ideally suit my usual style of driving, and demanding more use of the very competent braking system.

My guess is that the programming is set to match highest urban fuel mileage or some such as may be required by legislation... Not quite my ideal but I will just have to suffer it for now... smile

The late 2016 build, Feb 2017 sold C43s have a cabin button that allows the owner to select quiet exhaust or noisy exhaust in ANY of the other settings: the button operates a power valve in the exhaust, essentially bypassing the rear silencer on each side.
Using Sports Plus defaults to the noisy exhaust, but even in Economy Pro setting you can be noisey. For 2018 there was a model refresh that removed this choice and it is now only possible to be noisy in Sport Plus. My feeling is that even so it is quieter. My Mercedes specialist acquaintance tells me that in the leary mode extra fuel is injected as the exhaust valve opens to cause the really loud popping. Childish, anti social and other negative comments, but we love it. It is actually noisier on the overrun than the Morgan!

What we like is that a seemingly proper Mercedes Coupe can be made as noisy as a hot hatchback driven by a 20 year old...

Thanks for the link Richard. I admit to having been immersed in the ICE from the first time I became aware Ithat I could begin to understand that which made it operate, and from that day on matters mechanical have been a primary interest.
I suspect like many the sound of a tuned engine causes me to pay a bit more attention, and to be able to drive a vehicle with a tuneful exhaust has ever been a desire, though these days I have to type that I have restricted my usage to some degree as the result of global warming thinking.

Thanks also Peter for sharing your thinking. The beuty of my old Mog is that despite it`s lack of resonators, it can bumble along disturbing no one, much like my 991, though when the loud pedal is pressed the fun can begin... Childish perhaps but a simple pleasure that I may not be able to enjoy indefinately thus feel very fortunate to be able to grab the opportunity now and again... thumbs

I'm glad you enjoyed it George.
My love affair with engines and the sound they emit started when I was three and my late Father strapped me into a Tiger Moth and looped the loop with me suitably padded out to fit the straps with cushions. So lucky to have had this introduction to the ICE via a Gipsy Major 4 inline 6.0Ltr inverted 120 bhp nominal with open exhausts, the flying club he instructed at also owned a Procter and a Magister which were great experiences for a young lad growing up.,

We must keep these wonderful big bangers alive in the air and on the road, I would miss my Plus 8 more than I can say, the visceral feeling and audio track were the deciding factors when I very nearly got tempted to the Plus Four dark side last year.

I will confess that when the day comes that I can no longer maintain my car I would seriously consider a V8 Mustang as a direct result of the recent CX underdevelopment.

My first spannering was on my purchase of an NSU Quickly when I was twelve, purchased from the income from my paper round. I used on the field lane opposite our bungalow at the time and it taught me a lot, mostly that it hurt when you fell off doh
