Head Office and I discussed all the ramifications.

Once the Plus 8 is sorted the Tesla goes, saving us £5340 a year to spend on fuel for the C43 and Plus 8.

Once the CX braking fiasco is over I'll hire a Plus 4 or 6 for a weekend and Head Office and I will make a decision on the future of the Plus 8.

And the annual road tax on a 2014 Plus 8 is £600, for now.

I like my Tesla for what it is - an easy, quick and cheap commuter appliance. I like my +8 for what it is - I am currently in Provence in 35 degree heat and the Morgan is truly at home... but it's an expensive thing to run. I'm keeping both, they both have a place.

My Range Rover, on the other hand, which I've had from new, should probably go.

I'd ditch the Mercedes in your shoes Peter... It's the Range Rover equivalent of your fleet. smile

Fuel prices in general are not going to fall much from todays levels (as we move closer to the banning the sale of petrol cars) reducing the use of hydrocarbons in general and oil producing dependant economy nations will reduce production to meet falling demand to maintain revenue streams for as long as possible.

Gas guzzlers may also fall out of fashion, we may see more of a downward pressure on their values, as we experienced during the '73 oil crisis

Obviously if the annual mileage is pretty low it maybe an acceptable cost owners are prepared to bear, but other environmental factors may come into play such as more restrictions on where and when such cars maybe driven and the availability of components for modern engines.

We are looking at selling our Morgan Roadster (for different reasons ie going down to one garage) but would in a few years time consider a Morgan Plus 4 automatic as our only car (once long term reliability has been established) as both the wife and I can then drive it.

Agreed, but it isn't my car and Caroline will not discuss the matter.
The Morgan and the Mercedes are both paid for and the Tesla isn't.

Morgan as only car is a dangerous decision...I recently had hospital visits that were impossible in the Mog, couldn't get in and out!
Worth thinking about.
I once had to ferry a neighbour to emegency hospital in my mog when it was my daily car and my wife wasn't home ( even then it was quicker to drive him to a and e than wait for the ambulance) and it was awful for him as the hood was up in the rain.

I appreciate that, maybe we are longing for a mode of transport that is highly impractical in everyday life. Our Mercedes cabriolet gives us access to all the open air motoring we could ever need, with an amazingly comfortable ride, an electric open/closing roof from the comfort of your seat and a boot thrown in for good measure as well.......................

Interesting you say that.

Musk is a massive part of the reason I have never considered one. Add to that the aesthetics (which don't appeal to me), the way the company conduct themselves (see my first point), the constant complaints I hear about build quality and, in spite of them nailing the network drawback, I just can't get enthusiastic about them.

The moment you can turn the car horn into a "fart noise", is exact same time I know your product is aimed at a demographic I am not part of. Oh, and the interiors... blah; you can do simple and elegant far better: Polestar being a current example.

So, Peter, for me it is the Plus 8 / C43 or C43 and get a Plus 4... or tempt SWMBO into a A45s AMG and get a Plus 4 or keep Tarka...

...sorry, zero help there; however, I understand why you've decided the Tesla isn't for you.

Simon,
The CEO of Tesla reminds me of our, for now, PM.
Incredibly bright but at the same time naive and somewhat detached from the real world.

Tesla cars are sold on hype and emotion: one could say so are Morgans: some wonderful features and some really unacceptable flaws.
The Morgan flaws are, for me, easier to live with than the Tesla ones.
Tesla cars are also very cheap, for what they are, and it shows in fit, finish and interior materials. Specify a BMW i4-50 to the same level as a Tesla M3 Dual Motor and you are looking at £20k more.

IF i was commuting 50 to 100 miles each day then the Tesla would stay, but i'm not. I'm 70% retired and work from home.

So we agree, Plus 8 and C43, possibly change the Plus 8 for a Plus Four.... but I like the noise...!
We had an A43 for a couple of years, SWMBO wasn't impressed and in the end, neither was I.

Why keep the C43? it has selectable noise settings and no nanny state safety aids, other than distance from the car in front. The next C43 model will have all this rubbish, as will all mainstream cars. For me, in my dotage, I'll stay with older cars that demand drivers attention and involvement....
