1985 4/4 (CVH engine) needs a new battery.
Currently has a 038 model fitted but this seems to be a very tight fit.Tayna Batteries think it should be a 049H which is shorter but higher. This would make fitting the battery securing bracket impossible to fit.
Any ideas ?

It is an 038, but be aware that not all 038s are exactly the same size. The last time I replaced mine I went to a local auto factor (support local businesses) but found their 038 to be a smidgeon too large.
A Halfords 038 on the other hand, fitted perfectly.

^^^ I agree with Tim, I found the Halfords 038 a perfect fit.
On my 4-seater (where the battery is in the engine bay) I've had others which have been either slightly too wide for the clamping frame or millimetres too tall and the terminals short on the bonnet.

Worth checking the advertised dimensions of batteries of a particular generic type, which I've found are generally are fairly accurate. Unusual for them to vary more than a few millimetres, but that could make the difference in fit.

Halford fits,I bought one from a battery supplier in North Wales supposed to fit ! It was only a little bigger but would not fit ! and because I had marked it they would not give refund.
The Halford one definitely fits

Simple - take your battery bracket to a battery supplier and ask for an 038 which fits.
Got to give Halfords batteries credit, had one on my 4/4 which lasted 15 years!
