After some further research I found this: The color of the DOT 4 brake fluid is almost mineral clear with a little composition of yellow. It is compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 5.1.

Looks just like what's in the reservoirs.

Sounds like you're not sure if/when/what......i would get a couple of litres of Dot 4 and and push it through the full hydraulic system, both the clutch and brake circuits then you know where you are. Job done for 2 yeas

Dot 5 is purple so really there should not be a problem deducing what’s in your system.
But my understanding is the purple colour is not permanent and after a few years the fluid will be more of an amber colour.

Hence, why people do the “water test”!

Whatever you do, I always affix a small label (dymo type of thing) on all fluid reservoirs including coolant, showing exactly what’s in there and date changed, for future use.

Great idea. I keep al that information in Notes on my iPhone and Mac laptop. But the labels are a good way to make sure..

I did not note that Automec SBG DOT 5 hydraulic fluid as being an obviously different colour from any other brake fluid I have used over the years.
Included in the box containing the fluid bottle is a flexible plastic lable advising that the fluid contained therein is DOT 5. The lable a hole through it to enable it to be fixed to the fluid resevoir with a zip tie, which is also provided.
