Following on from the other thread, my new stalk arrived yesterday from rimmers. There only seemed to be two on the books so I ordered the one that appeared to have the same connectors, but on closer exam they are not.

I ordered the top one on this webpage,

but the white connector is short of a pin, and the existing module has an extra purple wire exiting to the car, in addition to the blue wire on the pic.

Has anyone got a note of the part mumber needed for an '88 cvh 4/4. The lucas part code I have is SQB119

So a bit mote research indicates I do have the correct part, could the alteration in wiring be due to the dim/dip module having been removed?

I might have a bash at repairing the burnt out switch, having found tome info on morganatica!

Can you not trace the wires back and see which ones you don't need, then push out the pins on the connector plug and install your old connector on the new switch wires. Tape up the wires not needed. I did something similar with a replacement motor cycle ignition switch recently, the plugs were different.

Well after a trip to halfords, I'm pretty much there, I am a bit of a novice when it comes to electrics, Still nothing you cant fix with a bit of thought and a cup of tea.

It's usually the tea that makes the biggest difference
Still not finished the switch change on mine (be glad when the fall out from the house rewire is finally completed...)

Success on the wiring part - just checked and its all good. I still have to reassemble it, including bending the stalk.

More tea I suspect.....

Hmm, yes.
Slurp away! It's the stalk bending that is helping my pause. The rewire to shift the power feed for the drive lamps from the switch side of the multiway connector to the loom side is no problem. When I did a minor rewire at the front a couple of years ago - horns and drive lamps - I fitted a relay for the drive lamps to reduce current flow through the main/dip switch.

Ah well, After much tea slurping and a fair bit of muttering, the task is done. Filing off the locating lug on the switch unit proved very helpful.

If it goes again I'll look at the relay option.

hi I know this is a old post but I am currently having the same problems on my 1992 plus 4 no dipped beam so removed dim/dip unit, it was then working for short time then no dipped again took the car to a auto electrician and he has found the column switch /stalk has melted so have ordered a new one from Rimmers to arrive tomorrow.
So do you have any more info re the extra wire and how did you bend the stalk to miss the dash without snapping it

sorry also I meant to say that the auto electrician suggested adding a relay to cut the current going to the switch as he wondered if the dim dip unit had a unit in it to reduce current to the switch.
