Buy a gym mat, they are not expensive. Glue pieces together for a desired thickness.
Bonus is that you will also have a cache for future jobs

An alternative view: It's a sports car.
Anything that doesn't make it go faster, stop quicker, or handle better should be chucked away in the interests of weight saving.

The rubber mat is quite useful. It sends leaks to over your feet instead of on the gearbox cover.
