Just checked Dave W's book and both a cited as 950kg so I guess I was wrong. I always thought the ali V6 was lighter than the Rover lump

I read somewhere that the Ford V6 is even slightly heavier than the Rover V8. The difference is that the V6 is placed more towards the center of the vehicle.
As for the torque, even though I found the S1 to be the much sportier and for me the preferable engine for the sum of its characteristics, at least subjectively in comparison the S2 was equipped with a bit more torque from lower revs. And the sound from the S2 was rather silkier and pleasantly fuller in the cabin, while the sound from the S1 was a bit more throaty and metallic. But these are 15 year old memories.

In my 70's plus 8 I could stop on a hill. Select 4th and pull away from stationary no problem. I couldn't do that in my S1 roadster. But the roadster was a fair bit quicker and who ever needs to pull away in 4th on a hill?
But the plus 8 sound was something...

I changed from a ‘93 4/4 to a 2002 Plus8.
Took my time learning the response of the car due to the extra torque. Wheel-spins and rear twitches were fun!
It offers a range of driving from almost automatic to “getting* a move on fun”. You learn how to use your right foot. I feel the car coming alive at 3000rpm.
mpg varies depending on driving style. I get 31mpg on average for mixed driving. It will drop on some runs!
I considered a Roadster but shied away due to ground clearance. Here in Wales we have a breeding ground for speed bumps. The Plus8 does occasionally ground on the chassis cross member if I am not careful.
As for the engine, no issues apart from an occasional MIL light that was for “ random intermittent misfire” - not noticeable but cured by using 97 octane fuel and narrowing the cause to No3 cylinder where plug lead was not as tightly fitting as the others. Possibly giving an occasional weaker spark that the Gems stats pjcked up to trigger the light when enough misfires were accumulated to reach the trigger point.
Emissions......always showed just within the upper lambda limit but last time I had e10 petrol in it and it was easily lower. Tip for pre MOT prep...put e10 in!
ULEZ zones....until about 18 months ago ( approx) the car showed ok for London but that has changed. My guess is the database for cars was updated to include the Plus8.
Be aware that as Morgans age some systems can deteriorate ( irrespective of model) . Exposed wiring, earths, rubber ware ( behave yourselves!). Suspension ( regular greasing is a must on all cars). Regular checks indicate where things need renewing.
My advice is to test drive to see if you like a Plus8. Then look at the condition of the car for signs of sensible servicing, maintenance and care.

Thanks to all for the very helpful advice. I’ll take a look at the Roadsters as well as the Plus 8s. Got to be fun comparing the cars on offer and extending my knowledge base.
