To my mind, it's not an MGB at all. It may have MGB body panels but it does not have:

A 'B' type engine, with a couple of minor oil leaks
Broken synchro on 1st and 2nd
Rust under the wheel arches
Stainless sills to conceal the rust in the wheel arches
A slightly tatty hood that lets the rain in
A forgiving girlfriend that does not mind the rain comes (mostly).
Any of the fun that a £3500 'B' brought me in the 80s

So I would not pay 95k$ for this I'm afraid, or even 2p. - not even if they put the steering wheel on the right way up. But then, each to their own. It's a lovely car, and worth it for the workmanship that's been put in.

Mind you they weren't much better straight out the showroom, I fondly remember all my BL cars etc some during their storage days, had been axle deep in mud, grass etc. whilst awaiting delivery to the dealer......rust buckets from day one. no wonder it all disappeared.

It shouldn't be long now before Chris takes delivery of his lovely custom built Green Frontline out in Aussie.

His regular updates of the build have been really interesting .

Wonder how it's been progressing. No updates since April and been over two years in building so far.

It got ensnared with two years of Covid which thanks to the Chinese has managed to cock most things up globally let alone loss of life and quality of life.

Sorry for the delay in updates, I just got back from a two week holiday in Manly and I dropped in to see the car on the way there and the way back. I also took my dad down to see the car the week before. So I have a nice lot of photos to update my topic.

I had planned to visit in earlier but the floods closed the roads to the workshop, even if not flooded I was not that keen to drive in the weather, the day I had planned to take my dad to visit in May and then early June but I cancelled as the Sydney area got 150mm of rain on the day I was going to go which would not be good to be driving on a highway for 300km. I did end up taking him right at the end of June but didn't update pay topic as I was busy.

Luckily the workshop is high enough to not have any issues with the rain and floods, the workshop owners house is lower and would have got flooded if the water rose another metre. So basically so far it has been COVID and Floods for the delays and just before the project started bushfires and hail storms. But Yes I was hoping to get the car in a bit over a year rather than over two years.

If you have a look at the car that sold for US$98,500 I had a few comments/issues.

  • The car only did 4000 miles in the 4 years the owner had it but dropped about $US60,000, rather expensive for the amount of use the car got.
  • I guess like a Morgan if you chose colours that are not that popular it could affect the value, I feel this car was not a bad choice which helped the price.
  • Photos 26 and 27 show cracking around the bonnet insert. I saw a car from Frontline in the Australian workshop with the bonnet addition, it made the bonnet very heavy, so heavy that the gas struts don't work meaning the bonnet needs the locking mechanism that you can see in photo 84. Seeing the engine fits in without the bulge I can't see any reason for doing it just to add weight and make a less structurally sound bonnet, the Australian workshop does not recommend it but Frontline seem to talk a lot of customers into it.
  • Photos 124 and 126 both show the battery replaced in 2021 and 2022. I expect the car is just not driven enough to keep the battery charged, I hope to not have that issue.
