Figured out how to replace the old fuel filter. Got the parts from NAPA. Had to cut the old filter so I could use the compression fitting nuts. Then cut the barbs off the new filter so the fitting nuts and compression ring would go on.

It all bolted up OK. Had a small leak at first but really tightened up the input compression fitting and stopped the leak.

I'll keep an eye on it.

Well that didn't work. It started leaking again and tightening it up didn't help.

I ended up with a section of brake line. Cut it and the old compression fittings with a ferrule worked fine into the original compression fitting. Then used rubber gas line on the other end of the brake line section to go to the filter. Same thing on the other end. No leaks so far.

Sorry to read that you are still having fuel filter issues, there are alternatives available here in the UK, I suspect there will be similar and more in the USA to choose from from aftermarket suppliers, and with a range of different fittings to enable conversion..

I have a similar problem and thank you for showing the photo of your fix. I do have a question someone may be able to answer though.... Seeing Dutch 's photo of his filter, which is the same as my 1982 Plus 8, there is a standard, on mine a Ryco Z14, filter.
This filter, though, has threaded nuts on each end. Does this mean there is a rubber washer holding the nuts on, or an "o" ring. The nuts seem to be unremovable though, and , like Dutch, I will have to cut them off?

The filter when new comes as a kit with 2 small brass olives, and nuts. The nut is slipped on first followed by the olive, and once the filter is placed in position and the nuts tightened, the olives compress and tighten on to the filter spigots. Once that compression has occurred, the only way to remove the nuts it to cut them off, and the olives are not re-usable.

I think I bought my replacement filter from Melvyn Rutter, though Brands Hatch Morgan advertise them too.

I have owned my 1980 +8 since 1982 and have always had the filter seen on Luddites post above. Never had a problem. Has been situated close to the carbs and most recently just below the facet fuel pump behind spare wheel.

Thank you to both of you. I have tried in vain to find such a thing in Australia. I will try Melvyn Rutter now.
